    What does "wanker" mean?

    I recently heard a child call another child a wanker. What does it mean?

    I looked it up on the internet and saw the attached file on my screen.

    Can anyone help? Is it a word Christians can use safely?

    It's confusing, because it's either:

    1. A guy who works for the mafia killing people.
    2. Term of endearment.
    3. A total insult.

    So with other words: it can mean completely different things... but what is it?

    It's a bad word. Wanker is a person who masturbates (wanks). Not a nice word to use. People use it when they want to insult someone gravely.

      Perhaps it's a misspelling and it's really a winker? I searched and searched through the scriptures and could not find this wanker.

          Are you serious?!?! The guy asked what the word meant and whether or not it's safe to use, and I gave him an answer. It's a British slang, and I'm quite familiar with it.
          You have absolutely no reason to attack me, Cranky old man, since I gave an honest answer to a simple question, without any hidden thoughts.

          If you don't believe that, you can google it and see that I'm right and completely honest in this matter.

          He asked if it's safe to use, and it's not. Or would you prefer it if I said "Oh sure, it's nothing, it's completely safe, teach your children that word and tell them to use it all the time"??

            It says right there that's also a term of endearment. Besides, KIDS were using the term, so it's obviously not something sexual.

              Children DO use it because they hear it from their parents, older siblings and friends, not because they know what it means. It's same as calling someone a d**k. And children use it, too.

                          I did think of following qamarun's links to double check his 'wanker' story, but then I remembered Satan trying to lead Jesus astray in the desert, and have decided to disregard his comments as foolish atheist nonsense.

                          Back to the important matter at hand, whilst channel hopping between God Channel and God Channel +1 the other day, I came across some strange cinematic event where two Japanese shout "WANG-KAAA!" amongst other heathen expulsions of audio whilst attempting to beat each other to death. Maybe the children were attempting to imitate this odd behaviour?
