Fathers, daughters gather to pledge 'purity'

In a "counter-cultural" event, fathers and daughters from across the nation are gathering tomorrow for the annual Father-Daughter Purity Ball in Colorado Springs.

Created in 1998 by Colorado Springs parents Randy and Lisa Wilson, the event has birthed a "purity ball" movement across the nation that has attracted international media attention. Journalists from Britain, Canada, Italy, Finland and Norway will cover Friday's gathering at the Broadmoor Hotel.

"This event is about restoring fatherhood – one of the most critical issues facing our culture today," said Randy Wilson. "Research shows that the most important man in a daughter's life is her father."

The New York-based "Tyra Banks Show" will film the event and interview the Wilson family later this month for an upcoming program.

The Wilsons have been interviewed on the NBC "Today" show, ABC's "Good Morning America," Headline CNN's "Glenn Beck" show and the "Dr. Phil" show. Feature articles have appeared in Oprah Winfrey's O magazine, Glamour, Marie Claire, The Economist, USA Today and other publications.

The event Friday will include a formal dinner dance, ballet performance, live chamber music, a covenant signing ceremony for fathers, a procession of daughters laying white roses at the foot of a huge wooden cross and ballroom dancing until midnight.

"There is no place in our culture that celebrates the power and beauty of the father-daughter relationship," said Wilson. "We created an extravagant celebration to affirm a father's place of protection and authority and a daughter's incredible worth and dignity."

Wilson said when a father's heart is engaged with his daughter, "she is more likely to be strong, confident, and able to resist peer pressure."

"The research shows that the emotional and physical purity of the daughter rests on the shoulders of the father," he said.

Tyra Banks is a great promoter of purity.

Also, they dance until midnight. Isn't that a little late for 'purity'? I would have the bash end at 9:30 so the little girls will understand when it's time to stop partying.

Anyway, I think it's great and more fathers should do more to protect the purity of their children, even if it only means partying with them more often.

Just a minute ago I was tearing off the "tamper-proof packaging" on a new bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce I'm putting on my garlic-bread Liberty Toast. (Wife is away).

So I'm thinking, you liberals have no complaints about there being hymens on food products and medicine containers, so why do you hate hymens being on girls?
