General Dwight Eisenhower won World War II and became President of the United States. His wife was named Mamie.
I was always suspicious of this woman. When General Eisenhower was off to war or doing the nation's business, the appropriate place for his wife was living with either his parents or her's. Instead, she had lived apart from them doing who knows what.
Unfortunately, she was born in Iowa not far from Freehold in Boone, Iowa. Her parents could have raised her in Landover Baptist Church but went elsewhere. I was appalled when I learned years ago a group in Boone was making her home into a tourist attraction. It was like, "Let's open a building that honors sin."
But, wonderful news has finally arrived. The house is being closed to the public. Honoring the sinful have never been a good idea:
