You see, God, being perfectly Just (Job 34:17), refuses to tolerate sin as it is an offense against Justice and makes Him really, really irritable (Isaiah 59:2). Because God is eternally good, the only appropriate justice He decided to create was an eternally bad consequence as punishment. We are of course talking about Hell. But Praise God! He accepted the Blood of His Own Son to satisfy his bloodlust and appease this Righteous Anger that sin affects upon Him. It doesn't make sense because you're trying to impose a 21st century amoral, westernized, ethical code onto the very Word of God. You can't do that, His Word is eternal. God's Word is without borders. Jesus didn't "stand" for anything. He wasn't a protester, He wasn't an activist, He never attended a university sit-in. He was the Sacrificial Lamb, born to die, to take on the wages of our Sin so those who believe and obey appropriately would be spared an eternity of suffering and torment.
