Demons, we're infested with demons today.
When exactly did you perform these measurements? Or are you just taking them on faith from some scientist.

My A Level Physics textbook matters more than the Bible, because, unlike the Bible, it's not fiction. And it IS your fault, you called me uneducated, and I will not take that, because I KNOW I am more educated than you.
And yes, I have read the bible, cover to cover. I have mine right next to me in my bookcase.

If you were more educated than me you'd be a True Christian.
You're not a True Christian, ergo, you're not more educated.
It's basic. If you weren't so ignorant you'd know that.

Well, I guess this is an example of someone not intelligent enough to understand what they read.
I'm sorry. Please don't be angry at me, sometimes people don't comprehend what they read and it's not your fault. You mean well, you're doing the best you can.
Keep trying! You're a fighter, you keep trying, don't you ever give up!

You're in high school and I have a BSc. along with a BBA, but you're more educated? I believe others on this board have their PhD's. I know many of the Pastors have their doctorates in Theology. But you're more educated.

This 300 second time limit is annoying me.
I can tell the differece, I was using a corruption of the word, as a derogatory, used to imply distaste towards somebody.
I'm taking these measurements in faith from a scientist, like you're taking your beliefs that it's 500 miles away from your faith in God.

And Cursed, thank you for the nice comment, I'm taking a shine towards you actually. I think I'm gonna call it a day with this lark, because I was a Christian a one point, I just couldn't see the truth in anything anyone was telling me, and my parents didn't like it much anyway.

How would you know your physics book isn't fiction? Who wrote it? What political agenda does he follow? Has he performed any miracles? Is there any aspect to his being that prevents him from lying? And is it printed exactly as written or has the printer changed anything? Does it come with a list of errata? Has it changed in any way since the first edition was printed? I sincerely doubt you can answer all (or even any) of these questions satisfactorily.
The Bible was written by God, so it is known to be correct and true, and it hasn't needed to change at any time since it was written, it is as true today as the day it was completed, that tells you something about the care that was taken when it was written.
And if you have a physics textbook with you then you obviously haven't even completed your stint at public school, to call yourself educated when you haven't been educated is a bit conceited, don't you think?
Leviticus 26:15-16
And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

In what, and from what University? And who says I'm in high-school? You don't know what an AS Level is so please don't impinge upon my intellect.
I'm got a 3.9, and an almost garanteed place at MIT, so I wouldn't go waving qualifications around if I were you.

It sounds to me like you are more likely to be "garanteed" a place in remedial American spelling and grammar classes at the YMCA.
I see a lot of vain, sass-mouthed babbling coming from your direction, but I don't see any Scripture provided to support your ridiculous assertions. How can we take your arguments seriously when you don't base them on Biblical evidence?
II Thessalonians 1:7-9
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power
The man who is being progressively sanctified will inescapably sanctify his home, school, politics, economics, science, and all things else by understanding and interpreting all things in terms of the Word of God and by bringing all things under the Dominion of Christ the King. -R.J. Rushdoony

Don't need to spell to do Computer Science.
And I don't like your tone. You might talk to some people like that, and I'm sure they just sit down and take it, but I won't. If you want my respect, you show me some, Sir.
Scripture? As proof? Absurd. I have certificates, not some half-baked faith in an invisible thing.
On a side note, the language you're speaking is American ENGLISH, not American, Friend. I think you need to go back to History 101.
Finally, it's spelt "Asssertations", not "Assertions".

Not only are you uneducated, you are a rude savage! You be nice to Brother Jebediah, he's worth a thousand of you, you nasty thing!
Your parents haven't taught you any manners, so allow me to introduce the concept to you, squirt. When you visit someone's home uninvited (e.g. Landover Baptist Forum, the internet home of Landover Baptists) you should always be respectful and polite, even if you don't like what they say.
You do this because you would expect the same courtesy of uninvited guests to your home.
Do you understand now? Was that simple enough for you to get?

Why do you think certificates (writing on paper) are more important than the Holy Bible (inspired by GOD writing on paper)?

I don't know how to respond privately on here, so I will do it here.
First and foremost, you will NEVER be my better. Elder, maybe - and I respect my elders, but not when they try to glance down at me from a great height. But not better.
Secondly, I will use my tounge however I see fit. I have chosen my words carefully, and if you want to supress my beliefs, that's fine - go ahead and ban me.
Thridly, I do believe an apology is in order. My tone may have been harsh, but that is just how I speak. It was a simple request for scripture, and I apologise for my harshness. Let's leave it there, becaus that is all you're going to be getting, Friend.

Yet because some scientist writes something in a book it's true, even though it's impossible to prove it correct or true. Isn't that the height of hypocrisy.

Really? You met a guy who measured the distance from the earth to the sun? I would really like to meet this guy! Please let me know where he teaches, especially since nobody has ever flown to the sun so there is no way that anyone has actually measured it.
So once again, you prove you are nothing but a liar, but we're supposed to take your word over the TRUE AND LIVING GOD.

I will ignore all but the last sentence in order to try and make peace.
My point WAS, when I was a Christian, I just couldn't see any proof around me for anything I was being told, so please don't get me wrong, I am quite open to proof - in fact I encourage it, I would like to be pursuaded back into Christianity, but I can't find any myself. Maybe somebody could help.

So you were a Christian, but you have spit in Jesus eye, and denied that the Holy Spirit exists? Well I guess there's no hope for you.
Hebrews 10:26-31
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

If the sun is only 500 miles from the surface of the earth (if it's flat like you guys believe) than the sun would be the length of a good size state away. So when it's in one spot that would make it thousands of miles away from other parts of the earth. You're entire logic is flawed. It doesn't make sense. How can you ever have noon?

Here is the proof:
To start off with, the sun is hot enough to glow yellow, so we can use Wein's Displacement Law to determine the temperature.
Wein's Displacement Law:
Peak Wavelength in meters = displacement constant / temperature in Kelvin
Yellow light has a wavelength between 570nm and 580nm, so we'll solve for 575nm. Since we are working with nanometers rather than meters, we'll simplify the math by multiplying the displacement constant by 10^9.
575 = 2897768.5/T
575 * T = 2897768.5
T = 2897768.5/575
T = 5039.6° K (8611.6° F)
So the sun is about 5039.6° Kelvin.
Now, the average temperature of the earth is 59° F, or about 288° K. The mean temperature gradient of the troposphere is 6° K/km, so let's solve for the distance.
d = (5039.6 - 288)/6
d = 791.9 km (491.1 miles)
There you have it. The sun is roughly 491.1 miles overhead. Depending on the exact shade of yellow (whether it's closer to 570nm or 580nm), this figure could be off by as much as 5 miles. However, I don't have a spectrometer handy, and I'm willing to live with an uncertainty of ±5 miles. It's not like I'm planning to visit anytime soon -- my shoes would melt .
The LORD is so good to me. Praise the sweet name of Jesus.
Pastor Billy-Reuben

Well, it would be safe to visit if it were possible to travel into the upper firmament. However, everyone knows that only happens when you die and (if you are a lucky one like me) go to Heaven. Otherwise, it is just something to ponder about, like where Noah got his nails from.
If you want, after you cook a sucking pig in the smoker, use the garden hose and put the coals out. Dump then one the floor and walkon them. That will be just like the Sun at night.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
