There is that old colloquial, rhetorical question "Is the Pope Catholic?" - meant to point out the obvious. In this case the "new" pope is up to his old tricks - promoting the kingdom of satan on earth.

In a recent "homily" (short for incoherent babbling on things having nothing to do with the Bible) the "new" pope exclaims that there is no real hell and Lake of Fire as once thought - hell "is not a torture chamber", it's just a place to go where you just won't be able to be with Jesus. For the average Democrat this would be like moving to a country without Obama and the Clinton's.

To the atheists (who don't believe in God anyway) the "new" pope is announcing to just "carry on" - "hell" will be just like the present - an endless frolicking in homerism, anal sex, fornication and sin.

Never talk with the devil, he is a "liar" and "swindler", "seeking our ruin" and for "this will be thrown into the abyss." If "we open our hearts", as Jesus asks us, and we do not go our way, we will have "joy and salvation."

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - Eternal damnation "is not a torture chamber," but distance for ever from God, from the "God who gives happiness". But if "we open our hearts," as Jesus asks us, and we do not go our way, we will have "the joy and salvation” said Pope Francis at Mass this morning in Santa Marta, inspired by the reading from the Book of Revelation. In the last two days of the liturgical year, in fact, the Church fulfills the reflection on the end of the world.

The Pope’s homily focused on the day’s reading from the Book of Revelation that describes how the angel seizes the serpent, chains it up and throws it into the abyss which is then locked and sealed. He said the serpent or devil is thrown into the abyss “so that it would no longer lead the nations astray” because it is the seducer. “He is a liar and what’s more is the father of lies, he generates lies and is a trickster. He makes you believe that if you eat this apple you will be like a God. He sells it to you like this and you buy it and in the end he tricks you, deceives you and ruins your life. ‘But father, what can we do to avoid being deceived by the devil?’ Jesus teaches us: never converse with the devil. One does not converse with him. What did Jesus do with the devil? He chased him away, he asked his name but did not hold a dialogue with him.”

Pope Francis went on to explain how when Jesus was in the wilderness he defended himself when replying to the devil by using the Word of God and the Word of the Bible. Therefore, he said, we must never converse with this liar and trickster who seeks our ruin and who for this reason will be thrown into the abyss. The Pope noted that the reading from Revelation describes how the Lord will judge the great and the lowly “according to their deeds” with the damned being thrown into the pool of fire and he said this is the “second death.”

“Eternal damnation is not a torture chamber. That’s a description of this second death: it is a death. And those who will not be received in the Kingdom of God, it's because they have not drawn close to the Lord. These are the people who journeyed along their own path, distancing themselves from the Lord and passing in front of the Lord but then choosing to walk away from Him. Eternal damnation is continually distancing oneself from God. It is the worst pain, an unsatisfied heart, a heart that was created to find God but which, out of arrogance and self-confidence, distances itself from God.”

Pope Francis said distancing oneself from God who gives happiness and who loves us so much is the “fire” and the road to eternal damnation. Noting how the final image in the reading from Revelation ends with a vision of hope the Pope concluded his homily by saying if we open up our hearts with humility we too will have joy and salvation and will be forgiven by Jesus. “Hope is what opens our hearts to the encounter with Jesus. This is what awaits us: the encounter with Jesus. It’s beautiful, very beautiful. And He asks us only to be humble and say ‘Lord.’ It’s enough to say that word and He will do the rest.”

Your post is fantasy. 100's of thousands ?? Even the Spanish Inquisition (run by the Kings of Spain, not the Vatican) only burnt about 20,000.

Someone might want to brush up on their history. Witchery wasn't the only "crime" punished by your church, and during the six centuries of papal Inquisition that began in the 13th century, up to 50 million people were killed. Your own dear St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) advocated death to heathens for the sake of the immortal soul. This ideology permeated the Catholic worldview with regard to heresy and conversion.

It is simply because they denied papal authority over their lives and did not share the belief that their immortal souls required such an allegiance.

History is replete with examples of the Roman church waging war against the Jews, Mohammedians, Protestants, and women and children in general both formally and informally for centuries.

Instead of writhing in agony due to demonic intercourse and pyrotechnics, just on the other side of a sealed door will be True Christians™ carrying on with songs like Amazing Grace and Won't It Be Wonderful There (well, I guess then it will be "Isn't it Wonderful Here?") - just out of reach of the sinner, all of whom will instead be provided with the same book of crossword puzzles to solve because of their failure to accept the Savior's offer of cleansing and eternal peace.


And the saddest thing is, my brothers and sisters in Christ, there are scores of people who will believe it because the great Nun of Rome said it. I don't know whether to ROFL or weep.

It is all about hope! If the Hell we create on earth can be overcome by listening to God (as well as his representative here on earth, Pope Francis) and combatting ingorance (A tough one to deal with in mid-America) then the Hell of the Bible is really off the table as one won't be spending eternity roasting on the business end of Satan's barbed trouser trout. Yes, there can be little doubt that purgatory is still in the cards but making the effort to find God and obey his word is surely a way to obviate the fires of Hell as they are sometimes seen.

Maybe, but it is a vain hope if every word of the Bible is not true.

If your boss thinks there is no Hell, then does he say that Heaven is nothing like the paradise described in The Revelations of John The Divine?

I'm not sure where I'd be if I doubted that.

What's that old devil Francis offering in place of Heaven? Some sort of grotto filled with plastic copies of relics and and other tacky souvenirs so common at "shrines" where someone saw Mary in a slice of toast and instantly was cured of a bad cold?
