King James Bible? -
11-08-2009, 04:26 PM
I asked my sister if I could borrow her Koran (since i wish to read every Holy Book) and I saw she had a King James Bible. I'm just wondering, is there several versions of the King James Bible, or just one?

Dear friend:
There is nothing holy about the Qur'an. The Qur'an contains the rantings of an epileptic desert nomad, purportedly revealed to him by the Angel Gabriel. Out of True Christian™ love, I exhort you to have nothing to do with it.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

In order to better understand the true depth and majesty of the KJV Bible, please take a few minutes and read my sermon on the topic HERE. I promise that you will find it enlightening.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:
Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)

Good for you to read all the religious texts! I think it's important to understand other points of view.
Yes, there are differences between versions of the King James Bible. Here's something they won't tell you, but the KJV1611 had the entire apocrypha in it.

You have a problem here. If I give you a Rolex watch with a Mickey Mouse watch attached to it by a piece of string, is the Rolex "a different version"?
Is KJV 1611 with the Apocrypha stuck in the back "a different version?" No.
Now Bathfire's research on the Apocrypha:
The inclusion of the apocrypha was, to my mind an “and get an Apocrypha free with every issue!” marketing deal. There is little reason such superstition and folk tales should share a cover with KJV1611 which is the Absolute Truth.
Indeed, I have no idea why it was ever included against the wishes of King James, who in 1599 said,
"As to the Apocriphe bookes, I OMIT THEM because I am no Papist (as I said before)..." (It may be that he meant omitted them from the canonical but did not object to the sales ploy.)
Looking more broadly, Article 6 of Thirty-nine Articles of the Church of England (1571 edition) states:
In the name of the Holy, we do vnderstande those canonical bookes of the olde and newe Testament, of whose authoritie was never any doubt in the Churche...
But of the apocrypha it states,
And the other bookes, (as Hierome sayeth), the Churche doth reade for example of life and instruction of manners: but yet doth it not applie them to establish any doctrene. And this remains the truth of the matter.
Not even all Catholic "Church Fathers*" believed the Apocrypha was scripture.
Jerome rejected the Apocrypha:
"As the Church reads the books of Judith and Tobit and Maccabees but does not receive them among the canonical Scriptures, so also it reads Wisdom and Ecclesiasticus for the edification of the people, not for the authoritative confirmation of doctrine."
Other minions of the anti-Christ agreed including Augustine, Pope Gregory the Great, Cardinal Cajetan andCardinal Ximenes.
*There's a laughable title.

Brother Sledge, the apocrypha is where you can read about exploding dragons and soup-sellers transported by an angel clutching the poor man's hair. There are also unspeakable pieces about how some woman's hand withered because she tested Mary's virginity. There is a darker side in which spells are mentioned and that giving alms remits sin. All garbage, I know.
It's all garbage but classed by some of more liberal persuasion as "harmless fun".

My man, I am only the messanger. I never said that the books were Scripture.
I find it interesting that it follows the structure of Luther's Bible so closely. Luther purposely moved James and Hebrews to the back of the New testament because he felt they were too damaging to his predestinarian view of the Word.
Truth be told, the original conservative prots were very angry over being told they had to do anything for anyone. Reminds me of today's right wing Brothers in Christ.
Lovable bunch that they are.
In Christ's Sweet Love,
Sam

The Book of Mormon is really a tough read. It's really such a laughable premise, that it gives one (even as open minded as I am) pause.
Our Brothers in the Catholic Church won't recognize Baptism from the Mormons and they recognize Protestant and JW Baptisms in their conversion ceremonies.
Not that I condone the Catholic Church. Not that I condemn it either.
In Jesus' Sweet Name,
Sam
