Default Day 286. Matthew 10-12 - 09-29-2011, 04:35 PM

Matthew 10-12

Matthew 10

1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Now, we get the 12 disciples.

Simon (Peter)
Andrew
James (Zebedee)
John (Zebedee)
Philip
Bartholomew
Thomas
Matthew (the publican)
James (Alphaeus)
Lebbaeus (Thaddaeus)
Simon (the Canaanite, wait, a negro?)
Judas Iscariot

5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Jesus didn't want them to preach to gentiles yet, they were just to go try to get the Jews back.

He told them to do everything he was doing, healing, casting out devils, but not giving money to the poor.

16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

That's our shepherd.

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

There's a problem with modern christians. They don't want to be hated. Hell, nobody wants to be hated anymore. Everyone complains about being bullied. Take being picked on as a sign of pride. It means you are different and special. If they hate you, then you are doing something right. If the world likes you, then you are failing as a christian.

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Are you afraid of people, or are you afraid of God? Who would you rather have hate you? People who can kill you on earth; or God who can kill you forever?

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

How do you confess him? It takes more than just saying something, it takes actions.

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Jesus came to mess some shit up. He didn't come to make things happy, he wanted turmoil. Why? Comfort leads to complacency. Jesus wanted to make the people uncomfortable. That would stir them to do something, and that something was to actually worship the LORD, and do it for the right reasons.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

This is a version of the more famous Luke 14:26. We'll discuss it more then.

Matthew 11

John the Baptist hears about Jesus while in prison, so he sends some guys to be with him, instead of waiting for John to leave prison. Jesus tells them to tell John that he's pretty much the saviour. John already knew that though.

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

The people claim that the righteous are always doing it wrong (see westboro, again, if you don't piss off the world with your christianity, you are doing it wrong).

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Jesus ate and drank. That pissed off people too. When you are right, people will complain no matter what you do.

27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.

Jesus said "YOU DON'T KNOW ME BITCH!!!"

Matthew 12

1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.

Hmmm. Remember, corn is a new world plant, so this would actually be grain, and they were eating the heads.

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

Work is illegal on the sabbath.

Jesus mentioned the story of David eating the shewbread from 1 Samuel 21.

4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

Jesus then says that priests do work in the temple on the sabbath, but it's not illegal for them. If Jesus is both in the line of David, and is a priest, then he can do work in the temple, since wherever he is... it is a temple.

6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

Jesus is God.

8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Jesus is LORD, even on saturday.

10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

They were out to get Jesus. Remember these were the guys who knew the law, and followed the letter of the law, but they had no spirit.

11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

If you have one sheep, and it falls in a pit on the sabbath, are you going to wait to get it out, or are you going to get it out?

Jesus then heals a bunch more people.

16 And charged them that they should not make him known:

If Jesus was really concerned with people not telling that they were healed, why is it written in the bible?

17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

Matthew again goes and brings back Isaiah. (This time Isaiah 42).

22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

It amazes me that people tend to think of Jesus as a common person, from a common family. That he was a "lowly" carpenter. You'll never hear of Jesus being hungry (well, not too hungry). He never goes thirsty. Why? He's from a family that is a direct descendant of David. Not just any part of the lineage of David, he's of the firstborns. The one's who became king. If you look at Matthew 1 again, from verse 6 to verse 11, those were ALL kings. Jesus forefathers weren't just sheepherders, these guys were royalty. He's not a branch of the family tree, not a distant cousin to the kings, he's the straight line, next ruler. When the monarchy goes back, and they re-institute the rightful leader, Jesus is the guy. He's the firstborn, of the firstborn... for 14 generations (if not more).

When people ask "isn't this the son of David" they aren't saying, he's kind of related, they are saying "if we still had a king, and it was the line of David, it'd be THIS GUY!"

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

Again Jesus is accused of being a devil.

Jesus tells them that he can't be, because for what good would it be for a demon to cast out demons.

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Jesus was saying, that accusing him of casting out devils because he's in league with Beelzebub is the blasphemy of the holy spirit.

38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

Jeez, what do these guys want? He's casting out devils, raising the dead, healing people... and they want a sign? What more sign can he give?

39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

For my next trick, I'll spend 3 days and nights in the earth. It sounds almost like he's putting on a magic show.

46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

Ah, Jesus mother and brothers would like to have a word with him.

48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

We have one interaction with his mother listed so far, and Jesus didn't really like his mother.

So what have we learned?

1. The 12 disciples are listed.

2. Jesus is both king and priest, allowing him to do the things of David, and the things in the temple.

3. Jesus didn't like his mother, she was probably just a nagging Jewish mom anyway.

Racists?

Where?

Isaiah 34:6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

John 5:46,47 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

I always teach the children all racists are black. They hate white people for being smarter and working harder. White Christians are never racists. I always teach the children to read Genesis 9:20-27 to learn why Jesus punished all black people.
