What is it like to be an atheist? -
04-19-2012, 05:53 PM
As I came across a helpful article showing me how to persuade an atheist to become a Christian, I read the preparation step called, "Imagine how they feel about their beliefs." Well, that got me to thinking, what DO atheists believe? What is it like to be in the head of an atheist? Is there any logical thought at all or is it pure animal instinct? Does one consider things like pleasure and pain or is an atheist simply driven to eat, sleep, and have sex with the closest hole that fits a peg (or peg that fits a hole, as it were)? I'm sincerely curious and wonder how can we help you overcome these base animal instincts to be saved from an eternity of torment that is due simply for the crime of having been born human and therefor depraved.
I look forward to your replies.
Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

Remember when you were an infant? Perhaps not, but you can imagine. Gawking at everything in complete ignorance, not knowing the first thing about the God or His Word. We are all born into this world atheists. That is why children must burn in accordance with John 3:18, which says that non-believers (e.g. small children) are doomed to Hell.

I imagine it's the ultimate in emptiness.
Just think, Sister. An atheist believes that after death, he will cease to exist. Not only that, but everyone he ever knows, and any difference he makes in the world, will also pass away.
The atheist even believes that eventually the sun will swell up and destroy the Earth!
So really, nothing an atheist does can possibly matter outside of a very limited scope. The most famous person today will be forgotten in the blink of a cosmic eye. So, they may as well seek out reward and avoid punishment, yet they insist on "creating meaning in life" and helping others in silly ways, like providing food without Gospel, or designing cities (usually without churches but with all sorts of pleasant public spaces), or giving free legal or medical help to the poor! Some even become social workers, living in poverty and trying to help others fix their broken families. This is a sad, sorry attempt to fill the God-shaped void.
Compare this to the Christian. I know, for example, that as long as I obey God, I get to spend all of eternity praising Him for His perfection, living in a vast city with streets of gold! What a wondrous reward! And even more, He promises to bless me in this life as well. And bless me He has.
And I also know that there is only one important way to make a difference, by helping others find Jesus and be Saved too. Any failures, either in my own obedience or in my witness to others, will lead to either me or the person I've failed to help being burned alive for all eternity in God's Lake of Fire. What a horrible punishment, and one that never ends!
As you can see, the Christian is motivated by selflessness and a love of God and man, a desire to exercise the Will of God. The depraved atheist is motivated solely by the hedonistic, reward-or-punishment that we see in lower animals.
Bible boring? Nonsense!

First, I speak for myself, as an atheist (since atheist is lack of belief in any god, that doesn't mean an atheist can't believe in reincarnation and such), and not the entireity of atheism.
I don't believe in your God, as much as we (you and I) don't believe (though, I don't say "false gods". That's just stupid to say) in Odin, Rah and every other gods.

Well, yea. After we die, we cease to exist. Our brain makes us experience life... Kill the brain, and you get nothing.
That "nothingness" isn't a void where you roam a voidness while deprived of your God...
When you die, you don't know you are dead.

Yea, that's about what's gona happen... In a very far future where humans might not even on Earth anymore.
The Sun will become a Red Giant, because it's fuel (Hydrogen) will become rarer and rarer (for it's normal hydrogen usage). This rarity will make the Sun "swell up", and destroy a big part of the Sol system...
After the Red Giant episode, the Sun will shrink down to a very compressed "ball" called a Blue Dwarf. Since the Sun isn't near as massive a star would have to be to become a black hole, when it compresses, it will just explode and destroy the Sol system.
But nothing will be lost, in all the gaz cloud and debris, because a fiture system will have the opportunity to form (long after the destruction of the system).
Fun fact: Jupiter is a failed star (or Sun, if you prefer). The reason why it didn't become a star is become it didn't become massive enought.

... remind me what's wrong in doing all this from the kindness of the heart, and not by obligation of some higher power (or else the fiery pits of Hell)?
Every actions we do affects the world around us in small or big ways. By these actions, we are remembered. By these actions, we can cause great good... Or cause cahos...
The good actions can make us be loved by others, while the bad actions cause harm to the people around us.

How do you know for a certitude that this is real?
Why do you think that gold would have any value in Heaven? Gold isn't perfect. Gold is just a weak metal... A soft metal.
Besides, we all live with streets made with black gold.

Atheism is not a "lack of belief." Atheism is a belief - that there aren't any gods: not many, not one God, nothing. It is a belief without any justification (it's easier to show evidence that something exist, and practically impossible for the contrary).
BTW, how can you justify reincarnation if you believe that there are no gods?

I have no clue where are you going with this. Gold is a valuable offering to God (Numbers 31:50; Haggai 2:8). God created gold, so gold is good.

You do realize that "black gold" is an idiomatic expression and that oil has nothing to do with gold (chemically, physically, etc)?

I imagine that the atheist must lead a very empty, unsatisfying life. They know no joy, nor can they find solace the way we True Christians™ do. They can't look at themselves in a mirror out of shame. They are friendless and addicted to the latest fad foods (tofu, organic dogmeat, etc). They worship science and yet are continually let down when their science gods can't heal the sick or raise the dead the way Jesus can. I imagine they spend most of their time masturbating, in a pathetic attempt to gain a few fleeting moments of relief from their daily torment.
And yet they cling to their ridiculous cult.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:
Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)

I haven't seen any of your claims backed up with Scripture, my friend. You are CHOOSING to speak on a Christian board.

Yet again we see an atheist proving that being an atheist is like being the most hateful and disrespectful people in the world.
It's like they don't even try to hide the longing for anal sex. Is being told by your creator that your desire for depravity means you are a lowly worm, deserving of death, so bad that you have to be consumed with loathing? Jesus died for you, you hateful fag scum. Oh I'm going to laugh with Jesus as you burn.

Congratulations on your phenomenal rebuke, replete with logical structuring, well-conceived points and coherent sentences as it most certainly was.
No, but, seriously, you actually think you're smarter than him? After coming out all guns blazing with your colloquial language and ridiculous ad hominems?
School was wasted on you, friend. I just pray that God sees fit to expedite your one way trip to hell.

Gee, that's a toughie! The Atheistics are mentally ill, and who knows how the diseased brain works? We do know the disease progresses with time, though. Like alcoholism.
The time they are most vulnerable to conversion is just before and after sleeping. That's because they know in their hearts that their willful obstinance is sinful, and they do envy the peace that True Christians™ have. So you can be sure their last thought before crying themselves to sleep each night is "Oh God, give me the strength to cast my prideful Atheism aside!"
Then in the morning, they wake up with their swollen eyes and think "Oh God! Another doomed day as a worthless Atheist!"
Once they begin their drug using etc. for the day, the desire to change dims, though. So try to get them either really late or really early.

I think that being an atheist must be very confusing and frightening. Who can they pray to when they need divine guidance?
