Is playing an instrument manly? -
11-27-2010, 05:55 AM
I've known of some Bible verses that involve music, but I can't get to them now, but the question stands, is playing an instrument manly? I personally play the guitar, and would like to hear God's word about it.
"In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him." 1 John 4:9
"A soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger." Proverbs 15:1

Psalm 98:5
make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing
1 Chronicles 13:8
And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
Nehemiah 12:27
And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.

The Bible is ever just a click away.

First of all, it's important to realize that music plays an important role in the Bible. It is used to praise Him, it expresses joy, it teaches, it can be prayerful. The Bible also tells us: Colossians 3:23 "And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;"
Therefore, a man playing his instrument with perfect zest, for the Lord? Glory! A sight to behold! The Godly sounds he must produce!

The guitar, unfortunately, is not a Godly instrument. I am a former professional guitar player. I was classically trained in my youth and played for many years in a band. I hope you have not heard of us... Toxic Detonation. A truly depraved bunch we were. I thank God I am now Saved. The electric guitar, in particular, is exclusively brandished as a phallic symbol, the mere sight inflaming nascent Jezebels into full-fledged harlotry.
Don't be fooled into thinking the acoustic guitar is any better. It is, in fact, a homosexual instrument. It, too, is phallic in usage... but the effeminate tones it produces are totally gay. Even the most "manly" men are turned into closet fags after indulging in too many "unplugged" sets. Think of just about any contemporary worldly artist and you'll know this to be true.
I'm not going to tell you to give up the guitar... I will just share that I smashed mine once I was Saved and realized the Truth. I have not touched an instrument since then. My voice, lifted up to the Lord, is my joyful noise.
Revelations 6:16
"And said to the mountains and rocks,
Fall on us, and hide us from the face
of him that sitteth on the throne,
and from the wrath of the Lamb"

Thank you for your advice Barton, I now think that I will take up another instrument, like the trumpet, or some Godly instrument.

Psalms 98:6
With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
So trumpets and cornets are Godly (when they are making a joyful noise) but please note, the verse does NOT include clarinets nor saxophones.
Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are un Godly among them of all their un Godly deeds which they have un Godly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which un Godly sinners have spoken against him.

The electric guitar is a form of male idol which hellbound homers fornicate with by inserting its phallic corners into their anuses and then playing it to produce vibrations in their prostate. The sound produced is something like a cross between the sound of horrible rock music and anal sex.
Never, ever touch an electric guitar, or you could contract AIDS.

I don't know if it's manly, but it is fun. I'm partial to the piano and am also learning how to play the harmonica

Expression of creativity in any form can be either masculine or feminine - or even both! As long as you're using the instrument to express what you feel in your heart, everything will ring true and the music you make will be beautiful!

Trumpet is of course the best instrument with the side effect of occaisionally raising the dead as in Corinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

What kind of hippy free love liberal God hating garbage is that?
I believe we have seen the applicable Bible versus, and the question has already been answered.
[Rev 19:20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone

Harps, Cymbals, and classical instruments tend to be Godly instruments, we see that in the KJV.
2 Samuel 6:5 - And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
Now on the other hand, instruments like the electric guitar are sent from the devil to corrupt humanity. Example:

I used to play the trombone, but it's been sitting out in the garage for many years and now it's somewhat rusty. Lately I've been playing a lot of skin flute, but I have an urge to blow that rusty trombone.

Indeed, Petal. The sweet sound of God's bowels is like a harp.
Isaiah 16:11 Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

I would also concur that clarinets and saxophones are out. Clarinets have closed tube cylindrical resonators that block even partials (producing what is known as a "dark" sound), and saxophones are used by the nigras in their jive sin inducing jazz. Flutes are probably "in" as they are open tube cylindrical resonators that don't block even partials, just like brass instruments (even though they are closed tube resonators, their bore is conical resulting in even partials). It looks like the Bible (KJV1611) promotes string instruments (like harps), but they have been subjected to much modern debauchery in the form of the "electric" variety.

Luckily, I don't play any "electric" intruments at all. I have bought a trumpet, and hopefully I will learn it. Classical guitar is still good then?

But if saxophones were not used for jazz they would be better? Just wondering, of course. Since I am a skilled saxophonist, I could play just about any songs. Not that I would play any songs, of course.

Clinton plays the saxophone and I do not have to remind you what a dirt bag he is. To shame his wife and our country by enjoying oral congress with that levantine kurva while sitting in GHWB's chair!
He is part nigra, though, on the Jefferson side. Gossip has it that he's been afflicted with the curse of Ham.
