And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. (Genesis 4:3-5)
God turned His holy nose up at Cain's hippie garden salad, much preferring Abel's death offering; blood and gristle, fat and raw flesh. Indeed, the LORD is so terribly fond of blood that He chose to have His Son die an extremely violent death, to atone for our sins - and being God, He could have chosen any method of sacrifice and it would've sufficed ... have Jesus bake a chocolate cake, for example. But the LORD loves The Blood© - it is His fine wine, His glass of cool water on a hot summer's day ... and, of course, His small change.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood (Acts 20:28)
