Seek And You Shall Find -

This a favorite with folks from every walk of life.
People seeking love find it all over the Bible. Jesus becomes their best friend and guardian; confidant and life coach and favorite blankie.
He offers the love and acceptance they've been looking for all their lives. They gloss over their servant status in the relationship and focus on all the blessings they have received.
They don't serve the Lord but rather serve Him up as a comforting turkey dinner. They want you to share the banquet but they refuse to do rhe scut work to put the meal together. Jesus brings the bounty and wisks away the dirty dishes and cleans and redeems your petty sins with his blood.
You saught and found just what you were looking for when you went to that Bible. You glued together the pages that bored you or confused you or disturbed you. You dismissed the pages that commanded you to do something impractical or out of date or currently illegal
You seek and find just what you want; and accept only what your sensibilities can handle. You accepted Him all right-- you eagerly accepted all the gifts of toys and warm blankets in his divine bag of goodies.
But you seldom seek out your chore kist. It's there, right between the pages of your Bible--bookmarking the verses that remind that you're loved. Jesus politely points it out every morning when you two get together for coffee and felllowship. But Jesus is so nice and easy to be with that you can't reconcile some of the more dramatic items on the list with the congenial guy who sits down to coffee with you and compassionly listens to your sins and offers advice.
You bow out from the assigments that make you squeemish. Some of the instructions seem brutal and barbaric. You figure that those commands were for believers in some other place; at some other time. You scribble over those items because you know that they don't belong there--even though they are standard items that Jesus writes on every chore list He's handed out to anybody who asks Him into their heart. Sometimes you mention your misgivings about specfic items on the chore list. You seek out Jesus with these questions and he gives you the perfect answer every time. He's so great. He knows exactly what you want and need. It's as if you were the same person.
That Seek and Find thing works fine for you.
