That is such an encouraging verse. I've been reading Genesis today and in Chapter 18 where Abraham is chatting with God they were discussing how many righteous people there were in Sodom and Gomorrah. These were two cities. Although they had a passion for..
. Although..
. They were dreadful cities and God decided to go down for a look see Genesis 18:20-21 "Yes," He said "I will destroy those cities of the plain."
Cities without babies become ex-cities rather quickly. Ghost towns. Abraham is noted in history for his justice. A fair minded man. Godly. He reminded God that there could be as many as 50 righteous people in the population. Genesis 18:23-24 Cities were smaller then, humans had only existed for a millennium or two and the global floodwaters had only subsided a few centuries earlier. Nevertheless a city was distinguished from a town or other small settlement and we can be certain that a considerable population was involved here. There were not 50 righteous anyway, so Abraham suggested a smaller number: 45? Nope. Dropping through the 30's, 20's Abraham finally asked God whether 10 righteous humans (age or sex were not mentioned) would be sufficient for God not to incinerate everyone in those cities. Or at least in Sodom. Genesis 18:32
In the next chapter God has completed His survey and
WHOOMPH down comes the molten lava, smoke, brimstone, fire, death as it were dropping from Heaven upon the place beneath which was very far from blessed even for newborns which, as we have seen, must have been there otherwise the cities would be extinct. Genesis 19:24-25
I have often wondered about those babies and slightly older age groups but God is clear, language is not necessary to speak lies.
