Suffer the Children: Lesch-Nyhan syndrome -
12-09-2008, 04:03 PM
God! He's just always, ALWAYS, thinking of The Children!
I'm not Sure why He chooses to Bless approximately 1-in-a-Million Infant Boys with this syndrome - but He does.
And who are we to question His Mighty Blessings?:
LESCH-NYHAN SYNDROME
Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is an extremely rare disease. It occurs once in a million births, and occurs naturally only in boys. It is caused by a genetic mutation. Lesch-Nyhan syndrome may be the most terrible genetic disease known.
Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is caused by a mutation on the X chromosome, which is the chromosome that every child inherits from his or her mother. Lesch-Nyhan boys lack an enzyme that breaks down a metabolic waste product, and the end result is a huge excess of uric acid in the bloodstream. The enzyme they lack is called HPRT.
Lesch-Nyhan syndrome was first identified in 1964 by Michael Lesch and William L. Nyhan. Michael Lesch was then a sophomore medical student at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore. Bill Nyhan was his research advisor.
A boy with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome seems normal as a baby, except that the parents begin to notice what they sometimes describe as "orange sand" in the diaper. These are crystals of uric acid being passed from the kidneys. By the baby's first birthday there is something definitely wrong. The boy becomes spastic. He does not develop normal coordination. He does not learn how to crawl or walk. His limbs become stiff. The baby's body tends to assume the characteristic "fencing" posture of Lesch-Nyhan disease - one arm bent, the opposite leg bent. This is a sign of damage to nerve fibers in the midbrain. As the boy's teeth comes in, he begins chewing on his lips. He begins to eat his fingers. He concentrates his gnawing on certain parts of his body, no one knows why.
The parents can't control their child. Often doctors have trouble making a diagnosis. The boy may not be retarded. He may have normal intelligence, but it's hard to tell, because his speech is poor. He can't speak well, although his eyes are bright and alert, and he seems to be taking in the world with understanding and intelligence. The boy may pull out his fingernails with his teeth. He attacks his body. As he grows older and stronger, he attacks the people he loves, lashing out with his arms and legs, biting at them, and using obscenities. It is clear that he is capable of love, and he forms strong attachments to his caregivers, even while he is attacking them.
The pain of self-injury is excruciating for Lesch-Nyhan children. It troubles them when they attack people, yet they can't resist doing it. They cry out with pain as they chew themselves. They know what they are doing but they can't stop. They feel the pain but the biting continues, and the more it hurts the more they bite themselves. Thus the Lesch-Nyhan cycle of behavior literally feeds on itself. When they feel an episode of self-mutilation coming on, they beg to have their hands tied and their bodies restrained. The sudden appearance of a stranger in the room may make them bite themselves. They may blind themselves, tearing out their eyeballs. Self-enucleation, tearing out the eyes, is rare, but it happens.
So! I hope no one wastes their Money buying these little homers any CHRISTMAS Presents this year!
They'd probably just go and chew them all up anyway!!!

We shouldn't get them Christmas presents because God already blessed them with a disease gift that keeps on giving right up until the day they die. God is especially gracious to these spastics, giving them daily previews of the torture of Hell so they'll know why to expect if they reject Him. They have no excuse for not being True Christians™...not that they could come into church or anything.

I just ran into this (Our "Piss PatrolMan" told me I was NOT at fault! ) and wondered if this "person might have Satan's Syndrome too:

Texas death row inmate pulls out eye, eats it
By MICHAEL GRACZYK
Associated Press Writer

HOUSTON (AP) -- A Texas death row inmate with a history of mental problems pulled out his only good eye and told authorities he ate it. Andre Thomas, 25, was arrested for the fatal stabbings of his estranged wife, their young son and her 13-month-old daughter in March 2004. Their hearts also had been ripped out. He was convicted and condemned for the infant's death.
While in the Grayson County Jail in Sherman, Thomas plucked out his right eye before his trial later in 2004. A judge subsequently ruled he was competent to stand trial.
A death-row officer at the Polunsky Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice found Thomas in his cell with blood on his face and took him to the infirmary.
"Thomas said he pulled out his eye and subsequently ingested it," agency spokesman Jason Clark said Friday.
Thomas was treated at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the Dec. 9 incident. Then he was transferred and remains at the Jester Unit, a prison psychiatric facility near Richmond southwest of Houston.
"He will finally be able to receive the mental health care that we had wanted and begged for from day 1," Bobbie Peterson-Cate, Thomas' trial attorney, told the Sherman Herald Democrat. "He is insane and mentally ill. It is exactly the same reason he pulled out the last one."
At his trial, defense lawyers also argued he suffered from alcohol and drug abuse.
Thomas does not have an execution date.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in October upheld his conviction and death sentence for the death of 13-month-old Leyha Marie Hughes. Also killed March 27, 2004, were his wife, Laura Christine Boren, 20, and their son, 4-year-old Andre Lee.
Thomas, from Texoma, walked into the Sherman Police Department and told a dispatcher he had just murdered the three and had stabbed himself in the chest.
Thomas told police how he put his victims' hearts in his pocket and left their apartment, took them home, put them in a plastic bag and threw them in the trash.
Court documents described the three victims as having "large, gaping wounds to their chests."

Am I alone in thinking we should appreciate God's great diversity in ALL its manifestations? Is this mutation not as great as, say, a soaring eagle or a comely young lady? Does the mangled chromosome not have as much right to survive as Ebola virus or a True Christian?
Do we do anything for the fortunate? Then why for those who are examples of God's wrath and compassion? Are we to think we know better and try to lessen His Punishments? And where would we be without these examples of base suffering that lieberals call "inhumane"? How could we appreciate good without evil or health without the sick?
I'm surprised that God makes only 1 per Million like that; 1 per hundred would make us concentrate more on the Lord's Bounty! People simply just don't appreciate it enough!

Of course you are Right, Brother Bath. I only wonder if JESUS approves of what God does sometimes. Or do they have like a Family Feud over things such as this?

Hmmm... a valid question Sister SUV made all the more difficult by The Holy Trinity being indivisible, perhaps the Holy Spirit helps in a sort of Committee of One-ness?
Doubtless a Pastor will arrive and solve this.

Just watch the extremist ultra-liberals use this as an excuse for stem-cell research!
It's god's will you freaks! If God didn't want your kid to be a self-devouring cannibal, God wouldn't have made your kid a self-devouring cannibal!

This is a delicate subject....but I think we, as a socirty, made a grave mistake when we became to come up with cures to "social diseases".
These illnesses are God's wrath upon cheaters, and if we just let them run their course, all cheatrs would eventually die out. Then we would at last come to resemble God's garden of Eden once more, with all living in blessed innocence and merriment.

That is simply the saddest thing I have ever heard. The story and the fact that it doesn't break your heart that innocent children have to suffer like this. A child could never have done something to deserve this. And, frankly, your reaction is disgusting.
He's the tower of power, Admits no shame, Untouched, crushed, will remain, To one, to two, to three, to four, Heading straight for an open door, He can see, what he can't feel,
Without one touch, It becomes surreal, But it's true, The power lives, Inside of you!

I'm far from perfect. It's still wrong to almost mock those who are in pain.

Communist? Right....What evidence do you have to support that? The fact that my favorite colors are all shades of red? Red like fire? Red like the determined will to never give up?

Mock? Mock? I'm sure you and I are in agreement that God inflicts this suffering. How can agreeing with the sure justice of God's decision be seen as mocking?
