My wife Delores and I were enjoying the warm weather this weekend by taking a leisurely drive through Freehold. We decided to drive out into the country and back into town along Indian Massacre Road to Route 60, then to the State Highway Access Road, past the abandoned limestone quarry to Burning Teepee Road, and back along Squaw Hollow Drive through East Freehold, past Indian Boundary Park, and back home. It was sunny and 67 degrees, so we had the windows down and we were listening to my recording of Sen. John Ashcroft's "Let The Eagle Soar" as the beautiful countryside unfolded before us.
Let me tell you... driving past the beautiful scenery and the many proud landmarks of Freehold--- the Olive Garden, the abandoned power substation, the Used Car Lot District, the VFW Hall, the Gravel Outlet, and the World's Largest Revolving Chicken Bucket--- Delores and I were overcome with emotion. I know I saw a single tear rolling down Delores' cheek as we arrived back home from our long silent drive, and I heard her quietly sobbing in her room later that evening.
