Easter Ham: Tasty treat, or honey-baked highway to Hell? -
03-10-2011, 05:56 AM
Friends -
My congregation does not believe that keeping kosher is required. However, I have seen some here insist that eating shellfish leads to damnation.
So, what of ham? Not the green variety; that may lead to botulism. I mean regular ham.
Bible boring? Nonsense!

If I can't eat bacon, what's the point of climbing out of the pile of dirty clothes I sleep in until late afternoon?
I love bacon! I think of it as God's way of saying, "Buck up, my ugly little Mexican friend. Live another day for my amusement."
The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.~Joel 1:12

Well bacon and ham are standards on ANY TRUE Christian table and good TRUE Christian Brother Monty's owns Montague Mid West Processing, the largest pig farm in the nation. Clearly Jesus approves of ham.
On the other hand the pagans keep on trying to steal Easter with their rabbits and eggs. This ham dinner maybe part of it.

My heart is indeed broken Then again, it always is - it's the Christian Lady's way
I'm still unCertain on this "Ham" issue and what exactly is involved here. And if I put cloves into Bacon Rashers, they'll only slide out

Well lets take this logically. Ham, bacon, and pork are all from the same animal. Muslims wont eat pork. Muslims are evil. Therefore Ham is good.

Dear Friend,
Muslims also commit sex crimes against nine-year old girls. Does that mean nine-year old girls are good? *shudder*
Beware the siren song of logic, my friend. If God wanted you to know something, He would have put it between the covers of the KJV 1611!

You are not following this correctly. Allow me to show you. You say Muslims commit sex crimes against nine year old girls. We know Muslims are evil, therefore committing sex crimes against nine year old girls is bad. If we are to follow the path of Jesus, we have to do the opposite of the followers of Satan.

Aren't you attempting to convince your friend using reason of a sort?

This is what Pastor Zeke gave me
- We're not required to make sacrifices because Jesus has given one sacrifice once for all. (Hebr. chap. 9+10)
- We don't follow the food laws (Mark 7:15-19, Acts 10:12-16, Rom. 14:1-3) although some members still regard lobster with suspicion.
- We don't observe OT (=Jewish) holidays. (Gal. 4:9-11)
- The day of rest is Sunday. (Acts 20:7, 1st Cor. 16:2)

Is there a problem with that?
God gave us reason so we could comprehend language and understand Scripture. How else could we use it to guide our lives?
Not agreeing with God-mockers is not the same as not using reason . . . unless you honestly believe that over 99% of the world's population is irrational.
Are you truly that conceited?

In and of itself, of course not. There is nothing wrong with using reason. In fact, that was my point.

I agree. Being wrong is not the same thing as not using reason. In fact, it is better (i.e. wiser) to be wrong for good reasons rather than to be right for bad reasons.

The Easter Ham is the true meat of Christ, as the muslims and jews will not eat it. Eating Ham is avenging Jesus's death, and you can be sure that no kosher or halal tax is being made.

Yes, that's true. I use reason to show the limitations of reason. In this purely negative capacity, reason is useful as a tool. I show by reason that reason is untrustworthy.
However, having so demonstrated, I do not rely on reason to prove the Truth of any matter asserted in the Bible. To do so would set up logic as a judge of the Bible, and hence as a false idol.

I agree that reasoning has its limitations but it has been given to us by God and would be a sin not to use it to help us follow the path of Christ.

I have always been of the opinion that as long as a mn has not violated the pig, the ham is safe for consumption. After all, Ham comes from the same place as BACON!!!!
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
