Resurrection Q&A: Will I be able to walk through walls? Will I get my nail clippings back? -
04-21-2014, 09:03 AM
On Easter Sunday we commemorate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. As Brother Bathfire pointed out, this was a historical event. We know it happened because we too will rise from the dead. If we never rise from the dead, then the skeptics will have their proof that Jesus never rose again—but not until then.
1 Cor 15:13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
[. . .]
1 Cor 15:16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
What will our resurrected bodies be like?
We don’t know, but we do know they will be like Jesus’ resurrected body.
1 Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
But simply seeing Jesus as He is is not enough; Jesus Himself must perform the transformation.
Phil 3:21 [Jesus] shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Do I have to die to get a resurrected body?
No. The verses above are talking about saints who are alive at Christ’s Second Coming. They will get a glorified body, which is of course the same as a resurrected body.
1 Cor 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
1 Cor 15:36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
[. . .]
1 Cor 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1 Cor 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Will I be able to walk through walls?
Yes. And it won't be like some cheap David Copperfield trick. We have established that our resurrected bodies will be like Jesus’, and He was able to walk through walls.
Jn 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
No more excuses for you clumsy women to keep walking into walls.
Will I be able to teleport?
Yes.
Lk 24:31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
[. . .]
Lk 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Will I be able to shapeshift?
Yes.
Mk 16:12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
Will I still be able to eat and drink?
Yes.
Lk 24:41-43
41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.
43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
Mat 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
Will I get back all my nail clippings and hair that I cut or shaved off?
I don’t know, but it’s an interesting question. Some ancient divines thought we would.
Quote:
Thus, although Augustine discouraged speculation of the characteristics of the resurrected body, he did discuss the topic at length. Moreover, he addressed questions which had vexed earlier theologians such as the chain-consumption argument and what happened to hair and nails at the resurrection. Augustine claimed that hair or nails that have been lost will be a part of the resurrected body, though not necessarily as hair or nails, for that would be grotesque. Rather, God uses the material as He sees fit in our resurrected body.
|
Will I be able to fly?
Yes.
1 Thes 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Will my face shine?
Yes.
Mat 13:43a Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
Rev 1:16b And [Jesus’] countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Mat 17:2 [Jesus] was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Will I be able to have sex?
No.
Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
Will I still have scars?
Possibly. Even though our resurrected bodies will be perfect and incorruptible (1 Cor 15:42-44a; 2 Cor 5:1), we know that Jesus still had His scars from being crucified.
Lk 24:39-40 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
When will I get a resurrected body?
When Jesus comes back, with the following exceptions:
- Enoch (Gen 5:24).
- Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Mat 22:31-32).
- Moses and Elijah (Mat 17:1-8).
- The saints who rose when Jesus died (Mat 27:52-53).
These have already been raised or glorified. God only knows where they are or what they're doing now.
When will Jesus be coming back?
Soon.
Rev 22:20a He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen.
| Mt 21:42, 44 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes . . . ? And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

Oh Brother Pendergast, this is so exciting to think about! Every night when I lay my head down on my pillow, I imagine Jesus coming to me to whisk me away from this dark and dreary world, to be glorified with Him, to be made like Him, and to be His Bride (Isaiah 54:5)! I wonder by what name He will call me (Revelation 2:17). I wonder if I will recognize my earthly home, or even my husband and children (Isaiah 65:17). I wonder if I will miss the sun and the moon, or if the light of the LORD will be so wonderful I will forget all about them (Revelation 21:23)! I wonder what it will be like to rule the world (Revelation 5:10) and judge the very angels (1 Corinthians 6:2-3)!. I can't imagine what crimes the angels have been committing to need judgement, but I'm ready for that responsibility!
Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

What if you were not on Earth for the end of days? What would be the case then?

What a stupid question. No Christian leaves the earth before Resurrection.
And no man ever had.

I can't wait to be with Him in Heaven! What a glorious day that will be; I can only imagine Him coming to me and telling me to arise and follow Him Home.

Brother Pim, since we will be able to glut on an assortment of victuals in Heaven, will there be toilets and sewers there? Or will we even defecate, for that matter? Also, since there is no aging or decay in Heaven, will our scat exist eternally in pristine form? And how will the uncorrupted feces be warehoused...maybe in huge golden vats or reservoirs? Or will it be pipelined straight into hell?

Important questions! We really should spend more time planning for the Eternity in Heaven. I investigated this thorougly and while I cannot give a definite answer, many things were clarified.
1. Jesus is no stranger to toilets. He appeared in one recently.
2. When Jesus arrives for the second time, the clothes worn by His companions are clean. This requires good Heavenly infrastructure including plumbing etc.
Revelation 19:14
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
3. You must be right. The dung goes straight down into the Furnace to enrich the incessant suffering of the sinnerswarm over there.
Malachi 2:3
Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.
Yours in Christ,
Elmer

Mr. Nickelmore,
You may start a new thread in the Introduction Forum. There you can tell us about your relationship with Jesus, your Church and your favorite verses. Hoping to meet you there soon.

Decent enough manners for a piece of unsaved rubbish...I pray that your introduction thread doesn't offend or alienate Jesus. If you just give Him a chance to enter you and move within you, your cup will flow over and you will never know emptiness again!

As we saw in my last post, those not on Earth for the end of days will miss out and be part of the heat death (or big crunch).
What is heat death?
What is big crunch? Next up, if there is no dung or mulch what will the food grow in?
How do plants grow? Rev. 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
If there is no more sea, where does the rain come from?

You really are stupid, aren't you. The rain comes from the sky. In fact, it comes from Heaven, when the Lord chooses. It always has and always will.
James 5:18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
Zechariah 10:1 Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; [so] the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.
Isaiah 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

Well, it did. But we're in this NEW set up.
Rev. 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
If we eat food, how does it grow? No sea means no rain but if you want rain done by some sort of spell, who does the spell? God? Or are there no plants?
In that case we could eat lion, but what do the lions eat?
Is. 11:6-7 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
Where does the straw come from?

"No sea means no rain"
That is where you're wrong. What does the sea have to do with the rain? Sea water is salty, like tears; rain isn't. God sends rain, not through a spell, but through His Favor.

Where the rain is sent from now, as you would have it, will not exist then.
As I have shown there can in fact be no food if what we are told is true.
Live men in space will miss out. Dead men with their ash on the moon or some far out place will not rise. Well they can't can they? They're more high than the sky to start with.
I'm glad we could sort that out.
Next we have gold.
Rev. 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
What sort of gold is that?
CAN YOU SEE THROUGH GOLD?
CAN YOU SEE THROUGH GLASS?
Why would you use glass OR gold to make a street?

My dear, why are you questioning God's abilities?
As Brother Jim pointed out, God doesn't need sea to make rain (although He sometimes dumps water from above through the windows of heaven, Genesis 7:11).
Therefore, it is not impossible for God to make gold transparent and common enough to use as street pavement. Seriously, which part of "omnipotent" don't you understand, dear?

Probably to help keep the streets in good repair. After all, the city is 375 miles high:
And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. Revelation 21:16
12,000 furlongs / 8 furlongs per mile / 4 sides = 375 miles per side, and the city is as high as each side is long.
A lot of dust can rain down from a city with buildings that are nearly 400 miles tall. So, when it rains in New Jerusalem, the streets will probably get covered with sludge. Gold does not form chemical reactions readily, so it takes less maintenance work to keep it clean.
