My Introduction -
09-15-2018, 06:12 PM
Greetings Dear Friends;
I just found your website while searching for churches and found this all very interesting so I hope to find answers to many questions I have had all my life. So here is my introduction.
I was born and raised Orthodox and have always loved Jesus and the Bible.
I go to Virgin Mary Church in Dusseldorf. This is where I was stationed in the military and so I love it so much that I decided to retire here.
I came to find Jesus by reading the Bible as a young child and following the teachings of the Church.
My favorite verse is:
Galatians 5:22-6:2 (Saints)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. 1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Hello and to our Godly forums. Thank you for taking the trouble to follow the instructions and provide a proper introduction: you really wouldn't believe how many people are too stupid to even do that.
If you were raised Orthodox, you must be some variety of Russian (unless of course you are a Greek? I do hope not). I had no idea that the Russians had ever had troops stationed in Dusseldorf, but perhaps military intelligence is different. It is certainly very unlike normal intelligence.
We are not Mary-worshipers here, dear. As you may have gathered from the name of our church, we are Baptists. Nor to we refer to Galatians as "Saints" - what's that all about? We are a strict King James Bible church. The KJV (1611) is the One True Bible and the Authentic Word of God.
I look forward to hearing more about your life spying on the Germans. Have you ever visited Britain? Apparently our cathedral cities are very popular with Russian tourists.
Vaccinated by the love of Jesus!!!

Hello and to our forums!
I hope you do find here answers you seek. I must admit, I was a bit surprised to learn there are Orthodox churches in Germany, but I guess all the Soviet soldiers had to pray for forgiveness somewhere for all the horrible things they were doing.

I was raised over seas and come from a military family. We are Americans in the U. S. military. I grew up in a combination of churches across Europe as parents served their country in a number of European cities, primarily in the U. S. Army some in the Intelligence Services so I also joined and served. I am a U. S. citizen and retired U. S. military but have known no other home than Europe primarily.
Many countries and major cities have Orthodox churches and in many cases that is the only Christian church in that city or region.

Do you have a name we can address you by, dear? I'm afraid I am struggling to call you by your rather presumptuous username.

What a very difficult upbringing you must have had. Had I known, I would have prayed for you - though as you are retired, I probably wasn't born in time to do that.

Really!!??!! One of my cousins - rather the black sheep of the family - married a British military man and she tells us that all British military bases abroad have their own churches (plural) - Roman Catholic, Church of England (i.e. Roman Catholic but pretending otherwise) and Baptist (Welsh Baptist, but beggars can't be choosers). They sometimes even have Methodists too. I am appalled to learn that the US military does not provide similar spiritual facilities!
However, you say in your opening post:

I was born and raised Orthodox

so presumably the absence of any other church would not have been a problem, as if you were born Orthodox then your parents must have been Orthodox? Where are their roots?

My parents were also raised Orthodox, they are Armenian and moved to the U.S. during the cold war and were recruited by American intelligence and later joined the military and worked at times with both until the fall of the Berlin war when they retired.
My legacy is that they actually played a role in the collapse of the Soviet Union. But that is all history now.

My mother she always called me God's favorite, because I did not have to live under Soviet oppression and I found freedom which our ancestors never knew.
So my user name on forums like this is God's_favorite.....because she taught me that God loves me best of all and I am God's favorite child. She taught me about Jesus and his love when I was but a child. So I love Jesus with all my heart and I am thankful every day for my freedom.

I must say it's interesting you are Russian Orthodox but attend a church praising Mary's name as though it were Catholic. Regardless a cautious welcome! I may be wrong talking this as I am raised as a Southern Baptist and don't dabble really in any other denomination.

That's okay, many of my Army friends are Southern Baptist.

Well I'm sure that's all very nice, but I really can't call you that because it would be a lie. Is it okay if I address you as Sid? I don't think we have anyone else called that here.

Well, if you ask Orthodox people, they see Catholic church as a sect that separated from them; and looking closely at the history of the two churches they are actually correct. So yes, there is much saint overlap between these two churches.

Well, you didn't actually find it as you didn't actually fight for it. You were simply born into it. Very different from those who stayed in their countries and fought for their freedom, often paying for it with own health and life.

So basically, your mother told you to think that God loves the most those whom He gives nice comfortable lives. Which would mean He loves less - or does not love at all - those who live oppressed. That is a very comfortable view of the world, I have to admit, as it absolves you from helping others. Are you sure you are not some sort of a Calvinist?

So, according to our new visitor, all those people in Auschwitz were guilty of something worth being killed for? Even the children? I'd call him more of a Buddhist than a Calvinist.
As opposed to the Landover view (as this lowly atheist is given to understand it), that your sins only determine your final destination and not the journey so much? That's easier to reconcile with, say, Donald Trump's existence for an example, not to mention all of recorded history.

I am sure that it has been quite some time that Landover Baptist has had a narcissist pseudo-christian like you amongst the ranks. To propose in any way that you are Jesus’ favorite is total BLASPHEME!
“For God shows no partiality.” (Romans 2:11)
“So Peter opened his mouth and said: Truly I understand that God shows no partiality,” (Acts 10:34)
Aren't you afraid of what Jesus thinks of you by being so sure of your name as being Jesus’ favorite? Don’t you realize that he is watching you at all times (Hebrews 4:13), and to proffer that you are His favorite, not only SLAPS ALL LANDOVER BAPTIST CHRISTIANS IN THE FACE as being second class, but also makes Jesus shake his head in disgust with you relative to the aforementioned passages!

Hello, God's Fave! I'm always glad to meet an Armenian, as yours was the first Christian nation. Which, of course, is why you are persecuted by the Turks.
Yes indeed, much like the Jews, you are the white man's natural ally in the struggle against Islamofascism.
Cheers!

Hi. Welcome to the forum. Christians have all been rescued from lives denying Jesus and pursuing false hopes. Some have even been redeemed from the clutches of Romish heresy. Usually I'd be reluctant to call them heretics because that presupposed they ever had any Truth in the first place. I'm a little curious though why, if you call yourself a Christian, you'd go to a place celebrating Mary?
We look forward to further discussion with you.
In Christ.
