I have been looking for a solution to a legal problem: Recently, we had the bathroom totally refurbished and it requires a wall-painting. Do not read that as “one wall needs painting” I mean a masterpiece for the wall and I was taken by the version of “The Rape of the Sabine Women” by da Cortona which adds a dash of Christian culture wherever it is displayed.
We know that this is a Christian piece of art because it’s old and there are many versions of it. The conclusion is that as only the rich can afford real “art”, and God blesses Christians, therefore rich people are spiritually high Christians, then the painting must too be Christian: It does indeed reflect God’s orders to Moses:
Nu:31:1: And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Nu:31:2: Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
Nu:31:3: And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.
...
Nu:31:9: And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods
....
Nu:31:14: And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
Nu:31:15: And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
...
Nu:31:17: Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.
Nu:31:18: But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Well, I sent for a life-size copy, hand-painted by the finest craftsmen in Shenzhen Province, but, by mistake wrote “The *
Rap* of the Sabine Women” and received a CD of a negro gentleman chanting gibberish – I can send you a copy if you want, and I still don’t have my wall-painting and the company is refusing to credit me with the cost or take it back.
Now I have looked through the Bible, and I can find only one place in which there is a record of a genuine mistake that goes unpunished: In Exodus, Moses and Aaron go up the mountain and speak to God. Aaron comes down and tells this to the Children of Israel and then he makes a mistake that anyone could make: Aaron builds a Golden Calf to the “gods that brought you out of Egypt”. Now this is a genuine mistake – Aaron obviously went up Mount Horeb with Moses but, due to lack of oxygen or the overawing presence of God, he received the impression that he had seen some pagan gods and that those gods had led him and everyone else out of Egypt.
Ex:32:1: And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
Ex:32:2: And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.
Ex:32:3: And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
Ex:32:4: And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
Usually, building an altar to false gods would be the sort of thing that would be punished by the earth opening up and swallowing you and a few thousand others, but here The Lord must have omnisciently known what Aaron was doing but did not want to interrupt his talk with Moses and therefore, when the Commandments were done, He told Moses to deal with it on his way back.
Moses did and Aaron (and his seed) remained the chief priest of the Israelites, because it was a genuine mistake – one that anyone could make.
OK, I made a genuine mistake but I am a True Christian: I have confessed and repented. I have prayed to God to intercede in this matter but I realize that much of His Time (although He is not affected by time) is taken up with choosing Mr Trump as the next POTUS, and so He is busy.
I think what I am after is more an instance where someone Biblical, is denied his rights and the perp gets wasted horribly – I could fit that into my next letter to the company.
Can anyone help here?
