Lament -
06-20-2007, 05:40 AM
Lament
I have walked through life,
Never realizing my true role.
I’ve lived, I’ve loved,
I’ve given my heart and soul,
But I’ve never felt real inside.
And now, waiting for death, I wonder:
Is this who I am?
Is this who I’ve become?
Have I deceived myself of the truth?
Questions that are too late to be answered
Must never be uttered at all.
I sit in darkness
Wondering about reality
For eternity.
-----
This is the first poem I've written in about a year, so it might not be my best.
The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.

My dear, may I suggest you switch on a light and crack open a KJV, instead of navel-gazing in the gloom. There's nothing quite like reading a few chapters of the LORD's Book when one needs cheering up!

Thank you.
I have some of my other poems saved to my computer if you would like to read those. (I wrote them a long time ago, but I still think they're pretty good.)

No thanks. Mindless, rambling poetry written by a 44 year old hag whining about how pointless her life is.....no thanks, really.

I'm NOT a 44 year old hag and not all of my poems are like that. I have some very uplifting poems, as well.

That must get pretty dull after a while. I mean, I can see the appeal of sitting in darkness wondering about reality for a half-hour or so, but wouldn't you want to go for a snack or something after that? And what happens when you need the toilet? Do you just go where you are, or do you try and find your way to the toilet in the dark while still contemplating reality?

Please, she's explained. She's not 44; she just caught her man in the "44" position with another woman and decided it'd make a nifty addition to her already ridiculous name. Go figure.

I couldn't make much sense of that, but surely her problem is that what she brings in her being is also useless twaddle?
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.
God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Okay. I can see that people are a bit confused about the "darkness" that I'm referring to in the poem. So, I'll explain:
Quote:
And now, waiting for death, I wonder:
|
"Waiting for death" aka "on my deathbed." So, "darkness" must mean... "death." So it means that I'll be looking back on my life wondering whether or not I had lived it well, even after death.
And, by the way, what exactly is the "44 position"? I've been using that number long before he cheated on me.
And what is it about my name that makes it so "ridiculous"?
The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.

I think it's safe to say that once you're up to your neck in the Lake of Fire, bobbing around helplessly while demons fling faeces and broken glass in your face, you'll know that you didn't live your life very well.

1) The affectation of Europeanising your name. Do you think it makes you look cultured or what? It looks about as dignified as if you called yourself "applique of the doomed"
2) The name itself. Do you actually mean anything by it, or did you just think "hey, angelique_of_the_damned44 sounds sort of paradoxical and doesn't make much sense, just like liberalism and Darwinism, so it must be cool"?

My name comes from my friends at a Halloween party and 44 was my ex-boyfriends football number. I believe I mentioned that in my introduction thread.

Yes, you did say that. You said you caught him with the head cheerleader. Can I ask you something? Are all the cheerleaders known for one specific sexual act?
