Default Day 33. Leviticus 10-12 - 10-09-2007, 04:35 PM

Leviticus 10-12

Sorry for the delay on Day's 33 & 34, I was on a mission trip to Atlanta.

Today we get:
  • Aaron's boys mess up
  • Clean/unclean animals
  • Rules for women

Leviticus 10

1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.

God had very specific rules about the incense.

2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

So God killed them.

Moses explained to Aaron that it was God that killed them, and that he shouldn't mourn his two boys. So Aaron didn't.

Moses calls two of his cousins to take the fried boys out of camp to be disposed of.

6 And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled.

Basically, if you mourn for the two dead, God will kill you too!

God then tells Aaron not to go into the tabernacle after drinking wine or hard liquor.

Additionally, the wave offering can be eaten by the family of the priests.

One day, Aaron's two remaining boys didn't finish eating the sin offering.

17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and God hath given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the LORD?

18 Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded.

Aaron said he couldn't eat it because he wasn't exactly right with God.

Moses accepted this answer.

Leviticus 11

God said to Moses and Aaron.

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.

Clean/Edible
  • Parteth the hoof, cloven footed, chewing cud. (Lev 11:3)
  • In the water, fins and scales. (Lev 11:9)
  • Flying things that go on all four. (Lev 11:21)
  • Locust, beetle, grasshopper. (Lev 11:22)

Unclean/Bad
  • Camel, coney (rabbit), hare, swine.
  • No fins or scales, in the water.
  • Eagle, ossifrage, ospray, vulture, kite, raven, owl, night hawk, cuckow, hawk, little owl, cormorant, great owl, swan, pelican, gier eagle, stork, heron, lapwing, bat; fowls that creep going on all four.

If you touch the carcase of one of these, you will be unclean until the even. Which starts the next day. If you touch them, you need to wash your clothes.

If the carcase of unclean things touches something, that thing is unclean too. If it is touched, you need to break it.

45 For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

He has a tendency to remind the Children of Israel that it was HIM who brought them out of Egypt. Even though it was just a couple of months/years earlier.

46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth:

47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

Many people now are touting "the Maker's Diet". Which is simply following the laws set forth in Leviticus 11. If you want to do the "Maker's Diet" don't spend money on a diet manual, just open your Bible (KJV1611) to Leviticus 11.

Leviticus 12

God said to Moses

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.

A woman who gives birth to a boy is unclean for 7 days.

On the eighth day, the boy is to be circumcised.

She is still impure (but not necessarily unclean) for another 33 days. During which time she can't touch anything holy or go into the sanctuary.

5 But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.

If a woman gives birth to a daughter, she is unclean for 14 days. And then is in the purifying stage for 66 days.

6 And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:

That's a burnt offering AND a sin offering. Remember, children being born is a sin. That is why there is the sin offering.

If she can't bring a lamb, then two turtledoves is acceptable; one for the burnt, one for the sin. (This law is used in Luke 2; when Mary and Joseph take 2 turtledoves because Jesus was born).

Thus ends today's readings, so what did we learn.

1. The difference between unclean and clean, beasts, birds, fish and bugs.
2. God will kill you if you burn the wrong kind of incense.
3. A baby girl makes the mother more unclean and impure than a baby boy.

This is a very important passage. Today's lovey-dovey hippy-dippy false "Christians" like to say that we should all just get along, and it doesn't matter how you praise God, just as long as you love Him and try to lead a good life. WRONG. As this section makes very clear, if you try to pray to Him in the wrong way, he will straight-up kill your rear end.

Fair enough. If Aaron had eaten it, God probably would have slaughtered him. Seems like the kind of thing God would do.

Can you blame Him? He was probably worried they might forget all about Him and start worshipping a gold cow - AGAIN.

Is this the only place in the Bible where women are seen as being more important than men in any way whatsoever?

O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.
