  • "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" assessed in a Christian Light

    "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was written by Julia Ward Howe in November 1861. The song links the judgment of the wicked at the end of time with the The War of Northern Aggression.

    OR DOES IT?????

    We have all heard the old saying, “One bad apple spoils the barrel” and we know that Jesus said, James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all, and it is in this light that I would like to examine this woman’s writing.

    The first thing to say is that Ms Ward Howe was an abolitionist, social activist, and poet, or as we say today, “spitting in God’s Face, a trouble-maker and a deluded socialist.” Worse still, she was the founder and president of the Association of American Women, a group which advocated for women's education, (which is anti-God); the Massachusetts Woman Suffrage Association, and the New England Suffrage Association, and the American Woman Suffrage Association. (Who would think one fat, ugly woman could be the authress of so much chaos?)

    The next thing is that God says women don’t preach. However they may praise God, and we have to decide whether this hymn is preaching or praising.
    Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord:
    He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
    He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword:
    His truth is marching on.
    Ms Ward Howe here is clearly prophesying, yet God says,

    “2 Peter 1:20: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
    2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

    So we have Ms How lying about (i) her seeing God, or (ii) not seeing anything and yet pretending she did or (iii) being possessed by demons.
    I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
    They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
    I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps:
    His day is marching on.
    You will note here that she persists in her lies. You can tell that they are lies because she uses such vague terms as “They have builded Him an altar”.

    Who are they? I think Ms Howe would be advised to point out that none of them could be:

    Le:21:17: Speak unto Aaron, saying, Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations that hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.
    Le:21:18: For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,
    Le:21:19: Or a man that is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,
    Le:21:20: Or crookbackt, or a dwarf, or that hath a blemish in his eye, or be scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken;

    Le:21:23: Only he shall not go in unto the vail, nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish; that he profane not my sanctuaries: for I the LORD do sanctify them.

    And if you consider nigras; they all have flat noses. So “They” should be “Caucasian males free of all disabilities.”
    I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
    "As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal;
    Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
    Since God is marching on."
    This verse is most strange! “As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal;” Translated from Howe’s drug-fueled rantings, this means, “If you stone to death those who hold The Lord in contempt, My Grace will do the same to you.” This is deluded lunacy.

    He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
    He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat:
    Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
    Our God is marching on.
    In this verse, Howe, obviously with lesbian or bi-sexual tendencies, preaches what she believes is Christianity and ignores what Jesus – the Son of God who invented Christianity - says. Jesus says, “Know when you’re beat and don’t waste your time.” Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
    Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

    And by saying this led many Yankees to their pointless deaths.

    Finally:
    In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
    With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
    As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
    While God is marching on.
    Christ was not born in “the beauty of the lilies” he was born in a stable and if there had been lilies there, the donkey would have eaten them all before Mary’s contractions began.

    And “As He died to make men holy” is completely wrong! He died to give men the opportunity of Salvation by following every word of The Holy Bible KJV1611. It is obvious that all men are not holy – look at Obama!

    And so we True Christians™ never sing this corrupting travesty scribbled by a proto-commie woman who couldn’t tell one end of Balaam’s ass from her elbow.

    These Satan worshippers are everywhere, insinuating themselves at all levels of our society and culture.

    How have they got away with it for so long? What have our so-called leaders been doing about it?

      Your scholarly research should be heeded by all Christians Brother Bathfire. I'm getting with Mayor Hold to ensure that this song has not accidentally snuck in to the repertoire of the Freehold Community Band. Such a lovely melody though – but Satan is always crafty with these things. Perhaps someone could write new True Christian™ lyrics to this piece.

      A similar thing happened with the melody to the Godly American Marines Hymn, it was taken from all things – the French! Fortunately, Jesus punished them with the Franco-Prussian War in 1872 (a few years after it was written).

      Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
      brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
      ...and get off my lawn
