The Wicker Man is a cult movie, and it is called that because it is about a cult.

The plot involves a murder that is investigated by a True Christian Scottish police officer. The murder has taken place on an island in Scotland, England.

The true horror is established when the Christian policeman realizes that all the people on the island are heathens, and he is not.

Can you imagine how terrible it would be? You are in a community where there is one religion, and it is the wrong one. Your life would be dominated by having to comply with everything that some mystical, invisible god demands. Everyone joins together against you and there is nobody you can trust. The population has weird rituals - they chant and sing strange songs to their god - the high priest dresses up in strange clothes and calls upon his "god" to do things for him! And when the god doesn't seem to do much, the priest orders the people to do it themselves!

Robin Hardy did us all a service despite being a Brit. He made us realise just how non-existent gods work by pointlessly superimposing themselves on the mind of reasonable people who could have been Christian.

The movie is so horrific that it is not suitable for women, children or the elderly. I therefore include a sanitized version that still captures the mindless actions of the Borg that is non-Christian religion.
