What books are you reading (besides the Bible)? -
11-23-2006, 04:52 PM
I do love a good book and would love to know what my fellow Landovers are currently enjoying.
I'm reading Architect of the Roman Empire by T.R. Holmes. It charts the rise of Octavius to Augustus Caeser and, as we all know, he was Emperor of Rome during Jesus' lifetime!
Elemental by A.S. Byatt. It's a collection of short stories, some of which have a fantastical element. They are rather hard to pin down but, from the first story, I think a recurring theme will be the frozen state of human emotions and how humans react to this numbness.

Ooooh. I am sure that Jesus doesn't mind--indeed all books are about him in the end since he is the one who gave the writers their talents.
Pastor Al E Pistle, that's funny I use that same site whenever I'm reading up on Ancient Rome (which is not often).
Sister Sue Vera, I flip through fashion magazines at the bookstore. Surely Jesus is ok with that, it is suitably feminine...

Not all books. Recently, I have been doing a deal of Christian research into the works of Karl Marx and Virginia Woolf. Both these writers were pot-addled lesbians who got their talents (if that's even the right word) directly from Satan! I would urge all decent Christian folk to avoid this sort of trash.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.
God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Karl Marx a lesbian? Indeed. And Virginia Woolf was bisexual really, if we want to get technical. She liked both of the Lord's good works!

A tiny "slip of the tong" there, Brother!
If you really meant to say " this" instead of " that",
why, you're urging all decent Christian folk to avoid reading you.
And this* decidedly will not do.
*see? I just bonked my own post, same way.

Well, don't mis-judge me, but I just couldn't help but pick up a copy of Ted Haggard's diet book . . . I sure hope it works without the Crystal Meth!

Did you just allude to the RAMONES? Are they Jesus-approved?
Ixi, I used to read a lot of Stephen King when I was younger. Have you ever read his Dark Tower series?

I didn't realise there were still any left. I thought they'd all gone the way of that tiger Al made a rug out of.

Shame on your Hellbound, demon infested souls! You should only be reading JESUS approved books.
Here is a precious little story about The Little Jew (Levi the Dancing Cockroach). It's a delightful book!
