Default Evangelizing the Godless: 5 Proven Steps for Witnessing to Atheists - 09-19-2013, 12:31 PM

Next to Pastor Deacon Fred who once converted an entire atheist crowd at their own faithless rally in 2002, I am pretty proud of my own track record of conversions over the many years I have been preaching. In that time, I have perfected and honed my skills as a Master-debater through the steamy ins-and-outs of much practice, and God has seen me safely through every bout.

Since atheists are the hardest opponents to debate, I decided to share my experiences with debating them since it is indeed vast, with even the most stubborn of infidels usually succumbing to the power of the Gospel (Romans 1:16). With that in focus, I want to share my 5 proven ways you can more successfully witness Jesus Christ to atheists.

Principle #1) Get in with the Goats!

Paul spoke of becoming all things to all men for the sake of Jesus (I Corinthians 9:19-23), which is why it is important to make your atheist friends think you are one of them, with the same bitter and hateful taste of life that they have.

Remember to say things like:

“Boy, this/that guy gives me the creeps!”
“Man, I sure hate life, don’t you?”
“Humanity sure is rotten, isn’t it?”
“Sometimes, I just want to extinguish all life on earth, don't you?”

Remember, atheists usually had bad dads and troubled homes, and those that aren’t in prison have liberal comrades in high places that helped them to secure better paying jobs in positions of authority, so remember to keep things sounding mundane, spiritless, and gruff. They are in denial about the fact that their aimless lives will never and can never have any meaning, so use this to get them agreeing with you to strike up a nice comradery before taking the next step.

Principle #2) Talk to them like they are slow and gradually suggest the Bible

Not only do the godless have no hope (Hebrews 11:6), but they are stupid fools according to the Word of God…

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. (Psalm 14:1; 53:1)

Yes, atheists are idiots are far as God is concerned. They are idiots since they deny the very obvious evidences of existence that anyone can see anywhere (the smile of a child, a rainbow, a sunset, a waterfall, a beautiful flower, etc). People this dense are not going to “get it” since Satan has hardened their hearts to the world around them. So gradually bring up the Bible as though talking to a mongoloid child…

Remember to say things like: “I’ve often wondered what my purpose in life is. You know, it says in the Bible that we have a purpose and were created to praise God."

Then cite Psalm 22:25-26 and Ephesians 1:12-14. It is important to speak clearly and slowly since atheists may try to get off track and not listen to these glorious Scriptures.
As you conclude your Scripture reading, say with enthusiasm: “I want to be saved like the Ephesians were, don’t you?!”

It is important to use plenty of positive emotional rhetoric, such as “Don’t you want to know you’re going to see your relatives in heaven someday?” And don’t forget: “Won’t eternal sunshine in God’s Garden be wonderful?!” Atheists will admit so since being in togas and partying constantly is something they are use to anyway.

Principle #3) Knock down the big arguments quickly

Now things won’t go easy. When you are preaching, your unhappy atheist may be trying to sidetrack you with arguments on why bad things happen to good people or why light takes so long to reach the earth if the stars were only put there some 6,000 years ago, but you can knock that right down by enthusiastically saying the following…

“You know, those are good questions you are asking, but smarter people than you or I have tried – and have failed – to answer them for years. So I think we needn’t waste anymore of our time with them, but simply have faith that we WILL have the answers some day in heaven.”

Always appeal to ignorance since only God knows the answers to the hard questions of life anyway, and why waste time thinking about silliness that God says only gets in the way (see I Timothy 6:3-5; 20-21). If you are accosted about continually throwing up ignorance as a means of belief, there is a Scripture for that…

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. (I Corinthians 13:12)

Principle #4) Always appeal to Scripture

By now, you should have your atheist friend realizing that you’ve got a Scripture for everything and that you obviously have hope about the world. So keep going—with even more Bible!

You’ve heard it said that quoting the Bible doesn’t work with atheists, but you’d be wrong to follow that advice. Since their lives are fundamentally grim and miserable, hearing God’s Word drives out the demons. Now quote Isaiah 53:5-8 and don’t be surprised if you see a crazed and angered atheist yelling in front of you, or possibly even growling. These Scriptures are powerful!

Principle #5) Finish off with prayer and the threat of God’s vengeance

When all else has failed (and even when it hasn't), it is time to say a short prayer for the subject and move on, but not before reminding them that those who don’t believe will have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone, no matter how sincere or willing…

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

With God, all things end with a terroristic threat, and there’s a reason for that (Luke 16:19-31), so make it stick!

Special Notes:
• Take a Pastor with you to witness to an atheist.
• Some atheists are extra bitter and may lash out!
• Beware of traps in the atheist's house.
• If you live in a Saved™ community such as Freehold, remember that unsuccessful witnessing means it remains your civic duty to report that atheist to the FBI.
