The power of prayer is beautifully described by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount:
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened....how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:7-11
And
here's a story that proves these were not just empty words.
Grant Stubbs and Owen Wilson, two Bible-believing Christians from New Zealand, were flying a microlight airplane when their engine sputtered and died over the rocky terrain of a mountainous ridge (New Zealand is a mountainous country that bears a strong resemblence to J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth). With no place to land, as the two faced certain death, they asked God for help, and did He ever come through!
As the intrepid aviators crossed the ridge, there, in front of them, was an airport which God miraculously made appear, allowing the thankful pair to land safely. Next to the airstrip was a 20-foot tall billboard reading "Jesus is Lord--The Bible." So, not only does the Lord come through for us in times of need, sometimes he even leaves a signature card.
I understand that the Landover Mission to Tahiti sent an investigator to verify the pilot's story, and also to confirm that no airfield had existed in that spot before the miracle of the landing strip that saved Stubbs and Wilson. Sure enough, the whole story checks out. Glory!
