I just don't get it -
02-19-2015, 11:09 AM
I read various posts on the LBC forums and the replies to my other thread and I don't get it. Why are so many of you so intolerant? Granted many members of the church know your King James version inside out and can use it to back up any argument. But it is a translation of a translation authorized for use in the Anglican church. Yet do any of you doubt it is the actual word of God? There seems to be some blind spots in your rhetoric. Jesus was a Jew, the old testament is of Jewish origin, and so many posts mock this faith. The Roman Catholic church was the only western Christian church. It is the main reason Europe's primary faith is Christian. History records the injustices of the Catholic Church but this led to reforms, break away denominations and ultimatly America Baptists. Catholics are Christians, get over it. We live in a time of globalization, the world is not all white, heterosexual and American, intolerance leads to conflict. I was brought up with the idea of a loving God.

The New Testament was translated from the Greek and the Old Testament from Hebrew and Aramaic. What are you trying to suggest?
Quote:

The translators knew they were handling the very Word of God. One can see this truth by reading the Prefatory and Dedicatory remarks. These men didn't believe they were handling "God's message" or "reliable manuscripts." They believed they were handling the very words of God Himself. As I Thessalonians 2:13 says, they ". . . . received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe."
Like the serpent of Genesis 3:1, modern translators approach the scriptures in skepticism, saying, "Yea, hath God said?" This was the first recorded sin in the Bible, and it still runs rapid through the hearts and minds of most scholars and new version promoters.
God has always allowed such people to be deceived because of the idols in their hearts (Ezek. 14:1-9; II Thess. 2:10-12; I Kings 22). A man who lacks faith in God's word is in no condition to translate it. This eliminates every revision committee in the past one hundred years, because these committees have consisted mostly of highly educated men who were heady, high-minded, and proud, thinking that their intelligence qualified them to tamper with the pure words of God.
The KJV translators were not like this. Their scholarship far exceeded that of modern translators, yet they remained humble and allowed God to use them in order to produce an infallible masterpiece. They didn't set out to "judge" and "correct" the word of God. Their purpose was to translate God's word for the English speaking people, as they were told to do by their appointed king. I know the King James Bible is the word of God because the KJV translators believed it themselves.

Whoa! Back up Gretchen. We are the most tolerant people there are, welcoming all to our flock. I am quite hurt that you'd think for one moment that I would not love to have you come and nestle in my strong and powerful yet gentle arms.
As far as God is concerned, He is the easiest going, most laid back guy there is. He has a simple rule book. Shows no favoritism and the rules never change. Simple.
Do you need a cookie?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Mr. Meek,
To be Christian is to accept JESUS as our SAVIOR. From the other viewpoint, our Salvation requires Faith in Jesus.
The Catholic Church has decided to discard Jesus. The popes no longer think that belief in the Trinity and especially the divinity of Jesus would be required for salvation. This is demonstrated without ANY DOUBT here.
Quote:
"The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."
|
Quote:
These statements regarding the Muslims also apply exactly and identically to the Jews. The implication made in paragraph 841 of the catechism is that in addition to the Muslims, which are just the first example, the Jews also are saved by their recognition and worship of the true creator and their Abrahamic faith.
|
What does this mean? It means that 1) The Catholic Church accepts Salvation without Jesus, because Muslims DO NOT believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ our Sweet Savior, nor in Trinity. Thus, Salvation fro the catholic Church has become independent of Jesus. This is NOT Christianity.
2) New Testament can - according to Catholics - be discarded as well, as Jews can apparently be saved without it.
Where is Jesus in all this? Correct! Nowhere. Jesus Christ gave name to CHRISTIANITY. The Catholics think He is unnecessary. What does the Bible think? let us see:
John 3:18
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
The Catholic Church ignores this (any many other verses). They oppose Jesus. Their faith does not necessitate the temporary sacrifice Jesus made for us.
They are not Christians. Jesus, have mercy on their souls (He won't )!
Yours in Christ,
Elmer

Young lady, if YOUR son was murdered by a bunch of hook nosed money grubbers how would you feel about them?
Exactly: don't you think that's how God feels?

Why all the hate, friend? You seem really upset that other people are not adopting your theology. That seems a bit intolerant to me. You should be more open to opposing viewpoints.

Meeky-poo, I'm having a hard time making any sense of your post. You seem to be saying we should worship a touchy-feely hippie version of Jesus instead of the Christ who is revealed to us in the Bible.
Sorry pal, but if you're going to worship a made-up character instead of a real God, you might as well be a Hindu.
(That's a rhetorical statement, not a suggestion. Don't be a Hindu.)

Much of this is not true.
Catholics aren't Christians, Jesus was NOT a Jew, and you can read why for yourself up above. I'm concerned, for the most part, that you believe God is not truly loving. That isn't an attitude that will lead you to Salvation!
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Are you kidding? Who else do you know tolerates a God who punishes all serpents to crawl on their bellies forever because one convinced an innocent and gullible woman to follow her natural curiosity? Who else do you know who tolerates a God who creates thousands of languages in a single afternoon just to prevent people from working together too efficiently? Who else do you know tolerates a God who turns women into pillars of salt for the crime of turning around and watching her home burn down? Who else do you know tolerates a God who destroys all life on earth save one family and a few select animals because no one else exercised their free will appropriately? Who else do you know tolerates a God who rains fire bolts and burning ice from the skies when He probably just needed a Snickers? Who else do you know tolerates a God who demands a certain number of virgin prisoners of war for himself? I have to be honest here, dear. I can't imagine anyone being kind and patient enough to tolerate this kind of behavior from anyone except for us Christians. I mean, right off the top of my head, I'm torn over who is the most tolerant person in the history of mankind. Job because God killed his family, ruined his life, and made him suffer for a bet, or Joseph who always knew he couldn't compare to Mary's first lover? I'm sorry, I just don't see it. I think you're the intolerant one here. You just cant stand to see good and decent people go unpunished. That's what I think.
Hello, my name is Mary. I hope to fellowship with you! That is, unless you don't listen to church authority (Deuteronomy 17:12); are a witch (Exodus 22:17); are a homosexual (Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:24-32); or fortuneteller (Leviticus 20:27) or a snotty kid who hits their dad (Exodus 21:15); or curses their parents (Proverbs 20:20; Leviticus 20:9); an adulterer (Leviticus 20:10); a non-Christian (Exodus 22:19; Deuteronomy 13:7-12; Deuteronomy 17:2-5;Romans 1:24-32); an atheist (2 Chronicles 15:12-13); or false prophet (Zechariah 13:3); from the town of one who worships another, false god (Deuteronomy 13:13-19); were a non-virgin bride (Deuteronomy 22:20-21); or blasphemer (Leviticus 24:10-16), as God calls for your execution and will no doubt send you to Hell, and I have no interest developing a friendship with the Spiritually Walking Dead.

Thanks for all your replies to my statements. I have read Pastor Zeke's comments about Jews and Catholics with interest. I also read his arguments against the declaration of human rights. Even though I may struggle with typing at type I have enough brains to recognize insidious and hurtful ideas. It's been fun writing to you all but for the sake of my mental wellbeing I bid farewell and will leave it to higher powers to judge you in the future. Love and peace

I have no idea why you think God is 'insidious and hurtful'. I know you cannot be thinking that any Christian is because all we do is follow Jesus. Is that such a bad thing? Is there a reason you are 'out to get Christians'?
