You sound like a serious student, and we wouldn't want you to turn away from the Lord's Word. There are often complex Biblical rationales behind the facts we discuss in here, but it's hard without a serious study of the Bible to explain that. For example, if you really knew where we are coming from, you would not think that we are racists at all.
If you want to understand our theology, you should go to Brother V's
Bible in a Year thread, where we go through the Bible, chapter by chapter and verse by verse, discussing the contents and explaining what casual readers may see as contradictions. We get into a lot of the details there in a way that's just not possible in a less structured thread like this one.
Stick with us in there for the entire year, and I guarantee you'll come to understand the Bible in the same way that we do, and that will make everything we say much clearer.

It's interesting to speak to people who interpret the Bible literally.

We True Christians™ feel exactly the same way. Sometimes I think it happens far too little.

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to continue on this mindset when so many others around one are of contrary opinion.

God never said that His way would be the most popular way, just that it is the most Godly way. He created us with two cheeks each, so we'd always have one left to turn.

Are there any concepts of this type that you approve of: concepts that do not go against God, but were not inspired by him or the Bible?

We are taught that we should live by
casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
Ronald Reagan delivered some mighty fine speeches in his day, but, on balance, I'd have to say that those were inspired by God. So, no.

Is there a general opinion as to when the Second Coming might occur? Is such an opinion even allowed, with believers preferring to prove their faith by waiting without asking when they can relax--similar to a kid sitting patiently in the back of the car, not asking if we are there yet?

There are a lot of prophetic signs that the end times are near. I think that most of us believe that there are some people in this forum today who will not die, but will rather see Jesus coming into his Kingdom. The Huckabee Presidency would certainly put the capstone on an awful lot of prophecies. We haven't cancelled the service contract on the prayer tower elevators yet, though.
We aren't a cult. There's no such thing at Landover as not being able to ask about the meaning of God's Word. I'm constantly wondering if we're there yet, but, praise God, I know we will get there eventually.

Do you believe in the present physical universe, that it is a vast space trillions of light-years across...?

We believe in the present physical universe, exactly as it is described in the Book of Genesis. We don't believe in space trillions of light years across. God spent the second day on the Firmament, but He labored six whole days on the Earth. That means that most of the action is right here.
Anyway, how can someone measure something trillions of light years across? It would take at least a trillion years to stretch the measuring tape, according to what the scientists say! They tend to package up a dime's worth of speculation and sell it as a dollar's worth of fact.
I have a few questions for you. What are your religious beliefs, and what do you think of the Bible?
