How Nobel Prize winners helped prove the big bang -

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The discovery by John Mather and George Smoot of "cosmic ripples," which won them the Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday, was lauded in 1992 by cosmologist Stephen Hawking as "the greatest discovery of the century, if not of all time."
While most physicists do not go that far, they are universal in their praise of the experiment, in which the pair and their team designed a satellite and used it to find proof of the Big Bang theory of the universe's origins.
They found faint variations in microwave radiation that dated back to just 300,000 years after the fiery birth of the universe.
These ripples in the microwave radiation, they said, were the primordial framework on which the galaxies, stars and other stuff of the universe took shape. It explained why the universe is lumpy and not a smooth sheet of matter and energy.
"The discovery changed everything," said Lawrence Krauss, a theoretical physicist at Case Western University in Ohio.
"It produced a revolution in what we know about the universe -- we know it is expanding, we know it is flat ... and we can measure that to an incredible accuracy," Krauss said in a telephone interview.
"Cosmology now is a precision science."
Until then, theoretical physicists had cobbled together small pieces of evidence that the universe and everything in it had appeared suddenly about 15 billion years ago from an infinitesimally small point in a vacuum of nothingness.
When the 40-member research team announced some of their findings to a meeting of physicists in 1992, an "audible gasp was heard from the audience," according to the American Institute of Physics.
Stephen Hawking, the Cambridge University physicist who explained theories about how the universe was formed in his popular book "A Brief History of Time," was one of most excited. "It is the discovery of the century, if not of all time," Hawking said in a statement at the time.
FILLING IN THE BLANKS
"I don't think he was completely out of control," Krauss said. People had known what to look for. "The picture, however, had been blank up to then," he said.
"Then it was clear -- it wasn't a vague idea. It was clear the lumps were there."
These fluctuations were faint variations in temperature, and scientists have since followed up on those measurements to try to understand, for instance, dark matter -- mass that no one has been able to see or measure but which must exist because of the amount of gravity measured in the universe.
Some teams have come up with new theories of dark energy -- a mysterious force that may be accelerating the expansion of the universe.
While the implications may far outlast humanity -- the end of the universe may be coming in a few more billion years -- Smoot has been clear on the need for the work.
"It is extremely important for human beings to know their origins and their place in the world," Smoot said in a statement.

While this is old news, so to speak, it should still be of some interest to you people who still believe 'god did it'
Personally I'm more inclined to believe the 'closed universe' theory, however this is a good example on the advancements of science.
However I will admit that this is not the only big bang theory out there, and the closed universe theory does make more sense than the flat one.

I am assigning you 100 infraction points for posting pornography in God's favorite forum. Enjoy hellfire harlot.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

The satellite you refer to obliquely was called COBE, the Comic Background Explorer. You can get an overview here:
http://lambda.gsfc.nasa.gov/product/cobe/
Basically, the entire program including the satellite and the attending science prove....NOTHING.
The Bible is more well documented than some mythical 'anisotropic' fol-de-rol.
I thought it was very informative that you made this nonsensical comment: "Personally I'm more inclined to believe the 'closed universe' theory, however this is a good example on the advancements of science."
IF YOU ARE WILLING TO BELIEVE A THEORY THAT CANNOT BE PROVEN, WHY ARE YOU NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT THE LORD GOD WHO IS WITH YOU ALL THE TIME?!?!?!?

Because I'm NOT a christian and I don't believe in your god!!
And there is reason, and logic and more proof behind these scientific theories than there is behind the 'god did it' one.
How many times over would Lilith or I be dead if 'god' did something every time someone prayed for it? Well?

Never! We are TRUE CHRISTIANS™ and pray only for the salvation™ of your eternal soul. No one here has ever prayed for your death.
If you want to check around, the people whose death we HAVE prayed for are no longer among the living. Specifically, I refer to the heathen and FALSE CHRISTIAN™ Jim Carlson
http://www.objectiveness.com/objective_ministries_not/faq.html
I don't want to go over it all again, but after our JOO lawyers sent him several warnings to cease and desist, a dark blue '76 Peterbilt tractor with a 40' refrigerated trailer somehow drove across two lanes of traffic and a sidewalk and mowed him down during his evening stagger to the liquor store near his home. Sadly, neither the driver nor the truck were ever identified. There was no forensic evidence and the only witnesses have since developed amnesia.

So...ummm...when people here say they can't wait to see me being butt-skewered by Satan for all eternity it's because you are just being sweet and loving?

All in good time. All in good time. You are here because JESUS is giving you the opportunity to repent for your life of sin and prostitution, and start send Landover Baptist® the tithe it deserves. Only in that way can you ever hope to avoid the anal hell SATAN has prepared for you.
But that hardly sounds like 'god' did it.

Of course God did it! God is famous for sending plagues of locusts, frogs, rivers of blood, killing firstborns, earthquakes, floods, pillars of salt and '76 Peterbilts. And mercy.

I can think of much worse punishments than that . For instance......whoa!! That isn't information it'd be wise to tell people who are possibly looking to capture me one day!

Ummm.....the deity mentioned in the bible isn't really known for mercy, Pastor Al. I can see why anyone who believed in that god would be scared of him.
Seeing as I don't, however.....yeah. I think I made my point somewhere and I ran out of words.

We simply go along with God's decisions. If God sends you into eternal damnation to gulp scalding hot sulfur some day (soon), we would jump for joy. Who in their right mind would ever oppose GOD!?
You really are a bubble head, aren't you....

This is a clear diagnosis: you are a woman. Of course you can't understand God's Word. You need to go to your father (as I understand it, you are not married) and ask *him* what to believe. The Bible was not meant for the inherently more stupid delicate mind of the female, so it must be left up to the male authority to tell the female what to think.
And I think it is mercy enough that the Good Lord™ didn't decide to send you straight to Hell before even being *born*. He gave you a chance -- is it His fault that you are choosing to defecate all over it in a smear campaign against His True Love™? If you are going to be angry with anyone, be angry with yourself for allowing demons into you so easily. Only through a dedication to Jesus and Landover can you hope to break free from the bonds of sin.

Harlot were you insulting my spelling abilities? Tell you what: I can spell "HELL" -- where you will be living forever. I can even spell "HEAVEN", where I will be, dancing for joy in God's Righteous Justice that is being visited upon you.
I am an expert in all things scientifical. I have been sent by God to spread the Word in a lieberal "University" in the northeastern part of the United States, and spend a great deal of time with these so-called "scientists". I know for a FACT© that scientists smoke a "blunt" (which I presume is each other's tallywhackers), then take turns with a ouiji board and talk to demons about what new "scientifical theory" they will introduce next.

Once again, Ms VanHellworshipper has met her match. No female can even come close to achieving equality with a good, clean-living Christian Man, much less win a debate. Even the ex-nigra Brother Remy whipped you soundly, and on this same topic.
Maybe its time for you to accept Jesus and retire your cauldron.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

There you go, I think that provides adequate example of your spelling 'abilities'.

Umm, Zeke, this so called scientific advisor still doesn't seem to know anything about science, or anything invloving complex calculations either.
Tell me, Mr Professor JonFish, seeing as you're such an expert, here's a basic question you should be able to answer.
What does DNA stand for, what is its composition and what are the names of the basic amino acids?
And as for my cauldron....no one's touching that!

DNA is a myth, made up by homosexuals. They made a bet with the devil as to who would win the '86 World Series and lost, so they had to make up a new "theory" for "life". Apparently they believe that sperm is made up of tons of little "slides" and "ladders" (methinks they played too much Chutes & Ladders as children ). I know for a FACT that DNA has *no* evidence to back it up. None. Zero. I can draw things on a chalk-board too, but that doesn't make them true.
