6 Ark. nuns excommunicated for heresy

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Six Catholic nuns have been excommunicated for heresy after refusing to give up membership in a Canadian sect whose founder claims to be the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary, the Diocese of Little Rock announced Wednesday.

The Rev. J. Gaston Hebert, the diocese administrator, said he notified the nuns of the decision Tuesday night after they refused to recant the teachings of the Community of the Lady of All Nations, also known as the Army of Mary.

The Vatican has declared all members of the Army of Mary excommunicated. Hebert said the excommunication was the first in the diocese's 165-year history.

"It is a painfully historic moment for this church," Hebert said.

The six nuns are associated with the Good Shepherd Monastery of Our Lady of Charity and Refuge in Hot Springs. Sister Mary Theresa Dionne, one of the nuns excommunicated, said the nuns will still live at the convent property, which they own.

"We are at peace and we know that for us we are doing the right thing," the 82-year-old nun said. "We pray that the church will open their eyes before it is too late. This is God's work through Mary, the blessed mother, and we're doing what we're asked to do."

At a news conference, Hebert said the nuns "became entranced and deluded with a doctrine that is heretical." He said church officials removed the sacraments from the monastery on Tuesday night.

Hebert said the sect's members believe that its founder, Marie Paule Giguere, is the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary and that God speaks directly through her.

Excommunication bars the nuns from participating in the church liturgy and receiving communion or other sacraments.

Hebert said the diocese had known for years that the nuns were following the sect and said church officials in the past had encouraged them to come back into the fold.

According to the Catholic News Service, the Army of Mary was founded in Quebec in 1971 by Giguere, who said she was receiving visions from God.

Dionne said she does not know if Giguere is the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary, but said she believes God communicates through the sect's founder.

"She is doing only what God and Mary tells her to do," Dionne said.

Here's my take on it.

Satan tricks the main Catholic body into believing one thing. Then he uses a few lying signs and wonders to convince these nuns of another thing. Now he's just sitting back and being entertained while these two groups fight with each other over who's right, when the truth is, they are both wrong.

Jesus forgive me, but I cannot help but appreciate the Devil's twisted sense of humor here. I'm trying not to snicker, but this is too much.

Excommunicating nuns for believing in Mary is the probably the third or forth most egregious example of stupidity I have ever heard of. Believing the Pope has any authority and is infallable exept in the art of boy-buggery is the first. Believing that MOOhammad is anything but a psychopathic child molester is the second, and believing that George Dubya Bush was not hand-picked by JESUS to destroy the mud races is the third.

I certainly blame the Clinton administration for coddling the LIEberal Canadians all those years in letting this cathylick cult fester and invade the state of Arkansas. If you really want to know how to handle these cults you have to look no further that our own Godly FBI. They took down David Koresh and his Branch Davidians in a fiery Glory (Praise Jesus!). After it was all over that bull dyke Janet Reno (of the Clinton administration) tried to "take full responsibility".

A convent in Italy is being shut down after a fight between its last three remaining nuns.

So badly did relations deteriorate between the sisters of Santa Clara in Bari that the Mother Superior ended up in hospital with scratches to her face.
Now the local archbishop has intervened and asked the Vatican for permission to close the convent.
But Sister Liliana, the only nun still there, says she has no intention of leaving her home of the past 44 years.
The Clarissa nuns are regarded as the most austere order of the Roman Catholic Church, devoted to a life of prayer, penance and quiet contemplation.
But at the Santa Clara convent in Bari, the vow of silence was shattered by an unholy row.
Sisters Annamaria and Gianbattista say they were driven to distraction by the nasty habits of their Mother Superior.
They became so angry that during the summer, they turned on Sister Liliana scratching her face and throwing her to the ground.
The two nuns have now moved into a nearby convent leaving Sister Liliana barricaded inside.
Despite the efforts of the Archbishop Giovanni Battista Pichierri to reconcile the three sisters he has been forced to call on the Vatican for help.
He wrote to the Holy See telling them the sisters had "clearly lost their religious vocation" and with only one nun remaining has asked for permission to close the convent down.
But Sister Liliana is not going without a fight.
She has not once left the nunnery in 44 years and she is not about to be pushed about now.
She has written to the Pope telling him she will only leave when God decides it is time to go. And since she is devoted to her vow of silence it is not that easy to reason with her
