Every time I think the Roman institution can't get any lower, it does. They've long since given up any pretense of being Christian, but now they've thrown in their lot with the tree-hugging environazis.

Vatican Penance: Forgive Us Our Carbon Output
The Mary-hailers have had to turn Scripture inside out to make it fit their tree-hugging nonsense. God told us to be fruitful, and He created us to subdue the earth and have dominion over its creatures:
Genesis 1:26-28: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
We're the ones who are to subdue and have dominion, but as usual, the Vatican has it exactly backward.
The fish heads are also showing a lack of faith in God's ability to provide whatever we need:
Matt. 6:26: Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Just in case that isn't blasphemous enough, the Romanists have to add the following:
Doing penance? I've got news for you, Sancho Panza de Torquemada: Trees don't forgive sins; Jesus does. Also, how many trees will the Vatican plant to "offset" its pedophile scandal?

Vatican Penance: Forgive Us Our Carbon Output
TISZAKESZI, Hungary — This summer the cardinals at the Vatican accepted an unusual donation from a Hungarian start-up called Klimafa: The company said it would plant trees to restore an ancient forest on a denuded stretch of land by the Tisza River to offset the Vatican’s carbon emissions.

“As the Holy Father [sic], Pope Benedict XVI, recently stated, the international community needs to respect and encourage a ‘green culture,’ ” said Cardinal Paul Poupard, leader of the Pontifical Council for Culture, who took part in a ceremony marking the event at the Vatican. “The Book of Genesis tells us of a beginning in which God placed man as guardian over the earth to make it fruitful.”

After the Vatican agreement was announced, Msgr. Melchor Sánchez de Toca Alameda, an official at the Council for Culture at the Vatican, told the Catholic News Service that buying credits was like doing penance. “One can emit less CO2 by not using heating and not driving a car, or one can do penance by intervening to offset emissions, in this case by planting trees,” he said.
