One common misconception is the use of Romans 13 to justify war. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.

And here is the error. The powers that be are "ordained of God." American government is ordained by God, and Iraqi government is ordained by God as well.

How dare America resisteth the ordinance of God! For by seeking to overthrow the Iraqi government, they have resisted the power of the ordinance of God. And the Bible says "they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation." Does America want to recieve damnation? Then they should not resist the ordained government of Iraq.

Another thing. The government Paul describes here is unlike any government I have ever heard of. What's this? "For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil." What rulers fit this description?

If memory serves, it was the Roman authorities that were terrorizing Jesus and His good works. After finishing with Him, they terrorized His disciples. Clearly, the governments Paul was describing was an ideal government, which only punishes evil, the likes of history has never seen. Even America has placed over 241 innocent people on death row since 1960. The governments I know of in China are also a terror to good works, what with their extreme persecution of Christians and whatnot.

And eliot, please understand. God did not give permission for the disciples to kill those people in the city. He simply told them that He will avenge them with His wrath upon that city.

This is why God does tell His disciples to destroy the city with bombs and guns, because He will take vengeance, not His disciples. God is not mocked.

See, if someone hates terrorists, and says they love God, they are a liar, for "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"

And of course, the verse we all know and love, says,

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:16-17

Take note that God did not send Jesus to condemn all the heathens to Hell, or to bash them into oblivion, but it says He sent Him for the reason that the WHOLE WORLD might be saved. God wishes that the whole world will be saved, so He sends His Son so that this might happen. Unfortunately, this will likely not happen, but there is always hope. The word "might" indicates the possibility. The word "might" is very different than the word "no."

I am not flip-flopping on God. God has that right, and He used it in the Old Covenant. Now, in the New Covenant, we have prophecy that says God will judge the nations when Jesus comes back, and before that time, we are to "judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come." 1 Corinthians 4:5

I have another thing as well. You think just because Bush says that God told Him to do it, means that He did? You just, take Bush's word for it? You don't think he could be...cough...lying? I follow the ENTIRE KJV Bible, not just the parts that sound sweet. How can you call yourself a Christian if you don't do the same?

When was I sarcastic? First off I didn't write that, just quoted it. But it was offered in complete sincerity.

Yes, God did hate Esau just because he was preordained to be hated. Think of the story of Esau for a moment. What did Esau do that was abhorrent? Ok, he had more than one wife, but so did Jacob, and God loved him. Okay, they were foreigners. Was that the problem? God hates interracial couples? Seems Esau was very big on this love and forgiveness stuff you keep clamoring on about. His brother cheated him out of everything that was rightly his out of his own selfish motives, and when Esau gets the chance to attack and kill him, Esau decides rather to embrace his brother and forgive him. See, Esau was just a hippie like you, and God hates him.

As to the part about not getting a lot of believers using fear-mongering techniques. First off the truth is harsh. We use great plainness of speech, and will not beat around the bush when it comes to someone's eternal soul. It has been said "honey draws more flies than does vinegar." This really isn't a Biblical concept. The Bible teaches the exact opposite. For example, Jude says "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference, And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." Furthermore, you should carefully examine all of the preachers (including Jesus) in the Bible. On some, they had compassion. On others, they preached fear. It is our duty to make a difference.

But apparently you are leaving now, without having ever seriously responded to any of the points I made, no doubt because you realized you have no reply. This happens often. Someone comes here huffing and puffing that we are idiots, they make a few ill-conceived arguments, and when we continue to answer every false point they bring up, they finally go away saying "well, this is useless" because they had never thought of any of the points we bring up, while we carefully examine every counter-claim to make sure we are working in the truth of Christ.
