Age of Reason, Thomas Paine -
05-14-2012, 06:50 PM
I was trying to talk to one of the bums here about God and His wonderous Gift to us, and he had the "Age oF Reason" by Thomas Paine and then he read some of it to me. It was a torn and tatterred book, and since it'd been in his back pocket next to his hooch for a long time, it smelled of achohol.
Dont know why i even listened to this hobo, but, i guess i did because God commanded each and every one of us to evangalize and i figured it was important to look like i was listening to him while i waited for him to listen to me.
Anyway, Mr Paine was going on about the supposed crimes of Moses agaisnt the people of the nations that had given no offense to Israel, so that Israel could take theyre lands. At one point, this was said by Mr Paine:
"Among the destestable villians that in any period of the world have disgraced the name of man, it is impossible to find a greater than Moses, if this account be true. Here is an order to butcher the boys, to massacre the mothers, and debauch the daughters."
You know, i dont think i can listen to any author that would say such things about Moses. He lost all credability with me right there. Kinda killed his own argument.
I dont think i won over this transient (THAT NEVER SEEMS TO LEAVE!! BTW) but at least i have found renude faith in the bible, if that's all the critics have to offer.

Thomas Paine is an idiot. Any modern apologist could wipe the floor with him.
It's quite simple. If God ordered His people to do it, it's just and moral, since God is the source of all morality and we are His property and toys.
Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.

The reason Thomas Paine knew so little is he did not have access to our Biblical scholars here at Landover Baptist.
That being the case, we can simply ignore Paine.
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

In addition to being an atheist, Paine was a sodomite, a French-lover and a communist. He and his writings have been properly cast on the dust heap of history.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:
Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)

After reading just a bit of his sinful works, I can understand why nobody went to his funereal.
Thank GOD that Texas is re-writing American History, to get rid of these embarrassments in our records!

The "Age of Reason" is such a phony name for his book. It should be "I am an Atheist."
Then, he would be completely ignored.

yeah, it wasn't the accusation of mercyless slaughter of the canites that bothered me, (since who are we to question God) it was that Paine actually called him a "villian". That just made me discount his whole arugment.
By the way, Johny Joe, i like your signuature line. Great minds thinks a like.

Everyone should read Tomas Paine's works, just to see how screwed up the priorities of atheists are. Just take a look at these quotes:
He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.
[The Bible tells us to love our enemies, not to mollycoddle them.]
Is it not a species of blasphemy to call the New Testament revealed religion, when we see in it such contradictions and absurdities.
[There are no contradictions in the New Testament!]
It is not a God, just and good, but a devil, under the name of God, that the Bible describes.
[None of the terrible punishments that God inflicted and the brutal genocides that God encouraged happened to anyone who had been saved by Jesus.]
One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests.
[Most good schoolmasters are gay, and homos have no business teaching our children!]
The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason.
[The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is blind faith in Jesus!]
The Vatican is a dagger in the heart of Italy.
[I'll give him due credit, he got that one 200% right.]
There are matters in the Bible, said to be done by the express commandment of God, that are shocking to humanity and to every idea we have of moral justice.
[So God caused a few sinners to have their heads bashed in or to have to eat their children. Boo hoo...]
War involves in its progress such a train of unforeseen circumstances that no human wisdom can calculate the end; it has but one thing certain, and that is to increase taxes.
[We can kill towel heads without raising taxes. Just ask the great President, George W. Bush.]

Tom Paine was a failed tax collector, and then went to France to lick the butts of a bunch of cheese eating surrender monkeys, hardly "Founding Father" material, but I guess he gets the "special" appelation in that category.
