Friends, this story made me sick to my stomach:

Pastor accused of beating gay man for two hours says she’s innocent because he never asked her to stop

Matthew Fenner says was leaving a typical Sunday prayer service at the Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale, NC when a swarm of fellow church members circled around him.

More than 20 people surrounded him, including the church leader, and proceeded to punch, beat and knock him to the ground for nearly two hours. At one point, someone grabbed him by the throat and shook him, a police report states.

The attack happened in January 2013 and, Fenner says, was a calculated effort by church members “to break me free of the homosexual demons they so viciously despise.”

Now, the church leader who orchestrated the attack, 58-year-old Brooke Covington, is on trial. She, along with five others, is accused of kidnapping and assault. If convicted, she faces up to two years behind bars.

Fenner testified that he thought he was “going to die” as we was being choked by one church member while Covington screamed, “God said there is something wrong in your life!”

“I’m frail and in my mind, I’m thinking, ‘Is my neck going to break, am I going to die?’” Fenner, who, to make matters even more stressful, was recovering from a biopsy at the time of the attack, said.

According to an AP report from February, members of the Word of Faith church have a reputation for this kind of behavior. Since Fenner came forwards, more reports of congregants brutalizing people “in a violent form of deliverance meant to ‘purify’ sinners by beating out devils” have come to light.

The church also has some strict and downright bizarre rules for members. For instance, church leaders decide which congregants can marry or have children, and members are forbidden from watching television, going to movies, reading newspapers, or eating in restaurants that play music or serve alcohol.

Covington’s lawyer, David Teddy, told the court his client is innocent because Fenner never explicitly asked her to stop beating him.

Fenner says the reason he didn’t ask them to stop was because he feared doing so would only encourage them to beat him harder. Not to mention, he was being choked, which made screaming for help a little, well, difficult.

“I couldn’t breathe,” Fenner said. “I’m sitting here thinking if I don’t get out of this, I’m probably going to die.”

But Word of Faith maintains its innocence, insisting: “We are adamant that no one ever physically harmed Mr. Fenner. The church does NOT target members who are gay.”

Now that you've read this story, I'm sure you're as hopping mad as I am!

Where on Earth did these people get the idea that it was acceptable to have a WOMAN as a pastor?

Have the members of this church never actually read a Bible?

The Bible is so abundantly clear on this, it's hard to understand how these folks could have gone wrong.

34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

I cannot understand so-called "Christians" ignoring the parts of the Bible that they do not think are "touchy-feely, fluffy-bunny" etc.

Oh, I'm certain that man is still engaging in sodomy. Which makes me wonder why these insincere, lukewarm Christians thought they should let him off with a mere beating?

The Bible does not say to beat them for two hours and then let them heal.

It is a problem with which I have often wrestled: Is that pile of stones to rest by my garage unused, or should I attempt conversion and, when it fails (as it often does with these denizens of Satan's realm) should I

(i) reach for those stones;
(ii) check to see if they have Landover Spiritual Insurance that they might afford a real exorcism by Pastor Zeke or
(iii) simply shun them, and take the advice of Matthew:

Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

My problem with the last one is that "Gays" probably find Sodom and Gomorrha quite tolerable...

PS, I see that the Church itself is probably sound - I can say this as it has been persecuted by atheists https://www.culteducation.com/group/...-unveiled.html A sure sign that there is hope for that institution if only they will rid themselves of that "woman":

The picture that emerged from the witnesses testimony was one of a heavily controlled atmosphere in which church leaders routinely dictated the punishment of children. The discipline was often carried out by church leaders and members not related to the child.
Friday's hearing marked the first time that former members have given testimony under oath about the church congregation and its leaders.
The testimony was peppered with descriptions of "the rod of discipline", "surveillance teams," and "blasting." The rod of discipline is a paddle used to spank children, the subjects of the surveillance were parents outside the church involved in custody disputes.

I could see women being employed in this gay therapy and the removal of rectal demons, after all the Landover Baptist Church's own expert on the subject is Betty Bowers. This woman is rather zaftig and isn't even remotely attractive judging by her picture - and as already pointed out, she has no business being a "pastor".

God appointed a woman a Judge of Israel.
Was God wrong to do so?
And in the same sense, would he be wrong to appoint a woman a pastor?

God surely didn't appoint her to be a pastor.
But I was saying, God can appoint a woman to be a leader.

Asking Deborah to follow the teachings of Jesus before Jesus was even born is a little ridiculous, don't you think? God speaks plainly. If Jesus wanted women to teach men, He wouldn't have told us the opposite, then ask that we twist whatever stray trivia we can find into His truth.

You keep claiming that these extraordinarily plain-spoken passages are somehow open to interpretation, then contorting through hoops to explain how God thinks women should be the equal of men. Eventually you have to ask yourself, "Who is really the person here who is letting what they want to believe pollute God's word?" If you cannot reject feminism and come to Jesus Christ with an open mind to hear what He offers, then what value is there in any of it? You're not saved. Throw away your Bible and preach feminism instead.
