Favourite recipes -
01-18-2014, 09:49 AM
I have an idea for a thread.
The men of the forum tell us their favourite dish, and then we ladies give our favourite recipe for that dish that the men can then pass on to their wives. I'm talking not only pies, but any dish, sweet or savoury. By doing this, we are serving the men of the forum.
I'll start with a recipe for 'pavlova', a delicious dessert suitable for all the family. It's a very large meringue which is soft inside and topped with whipped cream and finished with fruit or chocolate of your choice.
Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F). Place the whites of 4 eggs in the bowl of an electric mixer and whisk until stiff peaks form. Gradually add one cup of superfine (caster) sugar, whisking well, until the mixture is stiff and glossy.
Add 2 tablespoons of sifted cornflour and 2 teaspoons of white vinegar and whisk until just combined. Shape the mixture into a 6 inch round on a baking tray lined with non-stick baking paper. Reduce oven to 120°C (250°F) and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes. Turn the oven off and allow the pavlova to cool completely in the oven.
Shortly before serving, whisk a cup of pouring cream until soft peaks form. Spread over the pavlova, top with passionfruit pulp or strawberries or sliced kiwi fruit or grated chocolate. Serve by cutting into slices like a cake.

Hello Mother Of Seven.
Thank you for posting a recipe and a photo of the dessert I did not think it would be any good because I thought it had peas on it but then I looked up kiwi fruit I thought kiwis were birds.
I wish there were more recipes in the Bible I can only remember one it was for bread and one of the ingredients is fitches I can not find it in the grocery store. I am sorry I do not remember the verse I usually mark things with Post-It notes they are small pieces of paper with glue on them but they do not mess up your Bible I can send you some.
Thank you.

Hi Rusty! I hope you're well.
Are you thinking of the recipe in Ezekiel 4:9?
Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and ninety days shalt thou eat thereof.
I must admit I've never tried the recipe, mainly because I thought a fitch was a sort of polecat. But now I've looked it up and apparently it's either rye or spelt (which is an old European kind of wheat).
I would love to give it a try and send you a loaf, but I'm not sure of the quantities. If you're supposed to eat it for 390 days, it would be a lot, and my oven's probably too small.
(Nice-looking pav, Mother Of Seven!)

No offense here, but I find any kind of meringue to be dry, foamy, crusty and tasteless, sort of akin to something left out for a couple of days. About the only thing meringue is good for is house insulation between the drywall and sheathing, or maybe use it a chinking you a log cabin.
Now, the fresh whipped cream is another matter and is particularly good on pies.

You have never indulged in pavlova then. It is not dry, foamy, crusty or tasteless. It's moist and delicious. The outside of it is crisp, but inside it's almost impossible to know where the meringue leaves off and the cream begins. Drop by one day, and you can taste test for yourself. I can guarantee you will be converted.

The only pavlova I'm familiar with was Anna Pavlova - a Russian I believe, some kind of dancer as I recall.

Is it baked with human dung, or with the soft option of cow dung?

My dearest Pastor Zeke,
I did not know that you owned the company which produces the Ezekiel 4:9 cereals!
I'm throwing away all my cereal and I will eat only this one (even though it tastes horribly - I tried it once)!

Ezekiel 4:12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight.

Well technically I don't own anything. Thanks to an army of high-priced joo lawyers, I remain tax-free.

A lovely idea!
Notice how no man has asked for a particular recipe? They've become so used to women making those decisions for them. Silly silly men!
But regardless of that, I so hope we will see more requests for recipes, because I do SO love to serve men with every tasty, delectable, sweet and moist thing that I can put in their mouths. When I get mother and father set up in Leviticus Landing, there will be no man in Landover that has an unsatisfied palate.
Mother of Seven, your dessert sounds fabulous! Is it kind to the hips? I have such delicate metabolism that I hate to risk losing the figure with which God blessed me - despite the fact that I shall be an old maid for the rest of my days.

I'm always up for a good fig cake (1Sam30:12)
Leviticus 26:15-16
And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

My! I haven't whipped one of these up since I was 14, but I will try to remember. Father used to like this served with apple cider, but only on Wednesday evenings.
Pressed Fig Cake
1 cup sweet butter, blessed
2 cups honey, sanctified
4 eggs laid with love
2 cups milk squeezed from the teat of a spirit filled cow
6 cups whole wheat pastry flour, purified with Christ's love
1 ½ cups dried figs, full of faith
2 Tbsp. vinegar, offered to Jesus on the Cross of Calvary
1 tsp. cinnamon, with the "cin" removed
3 Tbsp. water, flowing from the throne of God
Preheat oven to 400°F. (Millions of degrees lower than hell)
Pray for all the ingredients, that the LORD will bless them and edify them unto our bodies' needs. In a Christlike manner, cream butter with 1 cup of honey. Add eggs, milk, and most of the flour, pray for 10 seconds, then mix well to make a dough. Dust the dough with flour and put in a very cold place for 20 minutes. Sing a hymn for this entire time while continuing the recipe as follows:
Grind the figs godly, and mix with the remainder of the honey, the vinegar, and the cinnamon. Pour the water and the filling mixture into a pot, simmer for 15 minutes, then let cool. But do not let your soul become lukewarm, lest He spit you out.
With oiled hands and the unction of the Holy Ghost, evenly spread half the dough into a 9″ x 12″ buttered baking dish, spread the filling over, then cover with the rest of the dough. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Say a prayer for peace.*
Yield: 8–12 servings

It's not so good for the hips, but nothing that a good hard scrub of the floor won't work off!
