Nationwide the use of marijuana among old people is sky rocketing. I want the senior citizens of Freehold to know this is a Christian city and sinful pot use will not be tolerated.

During my weekly coffee visits at the Freehold Senior Citizen's Center I warn the old folks City Government is watching them. What I sense, however, is that a large number of Freehold's seniors are nodding agreement with me but withholding decisions about using pot themselves. I fear they are leaving the pot door open.

It's Not the Kids Turning on to Weed; It's Grandma and Grandpa

The growing acceptance of and access to legal marijuana has some people worried that the youth are going to start using it more frequently, but that's not the demographic where pot has really taken off. Instead, it's senior citizens.
Whether it's wide-open medical marijuana states like California or fully legal states like Colorado, the gray-haired set is increasingly turning to pot, and not just to ease their aches and pains With a half-dozen more states likely to have legalization on the ballot (and win) this year and medical marijuana coming to more, grandma and grandpa are set to become even more interested.

Last week, CBS This Morning reported on the phenomenon of senior marijuana use, and the numbers are striking. Citing data from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the program reported that the number of pot users over 55 jumped from 2.8 million in 2013 to 4.3 million in 2014, a 55% increase in a single year. Correspondent Barry Petersen took viewers inside Oakland's Harborside Health Center, the world's largest medical marijuana dispensary, where the senior demographic was well-represented. His footage shows people in their 50s and 60s describing how marijuana treats what ails them.

"Seniors account for only 14% of the population, but they use more than 30% of all prescription drugs, including some highly addictive pain killers," Petersen reported. "So pot is fast becoming a pill alternative."

One Harborside patient, an 80-year-old woman who uses marijuana to help with mobility got right to the point:
"Every medication has a risk," she said. "I've made my choice."
Meanwhile, what about the kids? New research suggests that visions of legions of stoned teens as the inevitable results of not sending adults to jail for smoking pot are unfounded. Contentions than teen marijuana use would increase have not been proven.

It's so annoying to me the way old people play on the sympathies of those earning an honest living. Here is Freehold they get free coffee at the Senior Center. Our county, Polk County, IA, has a paupers burial law that provides cheap and free burial. On top of all that, they want the right to smoke pot.

I just read another public relations scam the press is trying to foist on us about the elderly. It is that the homeless population is "graying". What are we supposed to do about that? Provide free pot?

Well no, we DO know what they will be doing to eachother. That's the problem. And it is unacceptable outside of marriage and without the possiblity of making new soldiers for Christ. It truly makes me weep to think of all that seed going to waste dripping out of the lifeless husks of old women. There are much better places for it.

In my personal opinion I believe that those who need it f or medical assistance should be able to have access to it. My grandmother uses pot to help with her cancer, and my grandfather uses it for his arthritis and back pains. According to them pot has helped them alot and have made their lives better. As long as its being used for medicinal purposes it's all fine, but I do not believe in recreational use because it's not helping you with anything

Thank you for your thoughts, Chris. Unfortunately, sin is a much bigger issue than a little discomfort. Old people should remember suffering was what we were put here to do. Using suffering as an excuse for sin doesn't cut it.

The good Lord himself gave us the plant known as marijuana so we would use it. I consider it to be one of God's gifts to help those who suffer from certain pains and illnesses. Also most of the paper in many of the first bibles were hemp which is a by product of pot. So to denounce pot would be to denounce what they used to create the first bibles.

I didn't say no one was using bible pages to roll marijuana ciggerates. In marijuana plans their are fibers called hemp fibers which can be used to create paper, clothing, ropes and so on. It's a very strong fiber and is more efficient then cotton, polyester and so on. And i don't not smoke cannabis but I have family members that do for medicinal purposes. My brother, grandmother, aunt and great uncle use it for their cancer. My grandfather uses it for his pains and arthritis. If you want more info on hemp look its up. You will find that many ancient cultures used it for many things. The constitution that our founding father's wrote was made using hemp paper. Throughout most of America's history people used hemp fibers to make their own clothes and such. It was until the early 20th century that certain companies and politicians starred making fear campaigns about it.

If I were you, I'd stop searching web sites that promote niggerweed, and start looking to the Holy Bible for help. Madame I am not a retarded. I am a very intelligent person. When I graduated from crisp county highschool I was a honor graduate. I was ranked 5th in my class. Also how can you a Christian be so racist as to refer cannabis as niggerweed. Nigger is the most racist term anyone can use. Also my brother was never given a chance he was born with cancer. If you did your research you will see that every human has cancer cells in their body. It all depends if their active or not. If you do even more research you will see that while you are stoned it will stop the production of cancer cells. With this knowledge we might find a way to beat cancer.
