That power belongeth unto God -
11-02-2006, 09:11 PM
Brethren & Sistren, let's consider one of the greatest (and most overlooked) miracles in the Bible - the 4th commandment.
The 10 commandments are listed twice in the Bible:
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Deuteronomy 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
It would appear there's a small contradiction: What were God's actual words? Did He say "remember" or "Keep". Only one of them can be true; He can't have it both ways. Or can He?
Of course, He can. There's not a thing God cannot do. Ancient Rabbinic literature has decided that God spake both words simultaneously, or in Rashi's words, " The words “remember (זָכוֹר)” and “keep (שָׁמוֹר)” (Deut. 5:12) were pronounced with one utterance." ( link)
"With one utterance"!! This means that God spake the two words at once. Exodus and Deuteronomy are both true. Or as the Bible phrases it:
Psalm 62:11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.
There's a message here for all the scoffers, Catholics, wickers and atheists, who plague this board: Whenever you ERRONEOUSLY think you have found a contradiction in the Bible - you have only proved the omnipotence of God. That power belongeth unto God!

Excellent post Brother Prune. You point out the key point that separates the saved from the damned; the realization that God speaks out of both sides of His divine face at once! Thus do you get the ark having two and seven of every animal; threw the Godly power of Divine doublespeak! PRAISE!

An excellent post. But while we're at it, it may be wise to "remember" what happens to those who don't keep the sabbath day:
Numbers 15:32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. 36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Frankly, unless you believe the death penalty should be reinstated for working on Sunday, you have no right to call yourself a Christian.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.
God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

Another excellent sermon, Pastor. When people see "contradictions" or "absurdities" in the Bible, that doesn't prove that the Bible is false; instead, it proves that those people are damned:
I Cor. 2:11-14: For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.
Remember that the next time Mrs. Van Helltopay or some other scoffer tries to point out "contradictions" or "absurdities" in the Bible.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.
