The Godfather, Parts I And II

Boooooring

Title says it all.... This movie was long, and cut out the best parts of the book. It had a good cast, but that can't make up for poor transition from the novel. Bottom line: read the book, it's better.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

Funny, Campy, idiotic-one of the worst westerns ever made!

This film borders on the absurd, from the Civil War Scenes supposedly showing The Battle of Bull Run-filmed in a locale resembling the American Southwest-instead of Virginia-in the east, to the pathetic acting of Clint Eastwood-this film as a serious western is very sad. I know it enjoys a high rating, perhaps I missed something. As a possible camp like dark comedy it is easier to watch. The only person who could act in this film-is Eli Wallach, who hams up his role quite well. I will give Lee Van Cleef some credit as well-he makes a great "Angel Eyes". Clint is Clint, what else can be said. Somehow this guy was able to build a career on very little. To be sure, he has done some works that I have been able to enjoy-however, this is not one of them. If you wish to see a violent movie, with terrible sets and horrible screenplay-then go for this one. I am sure that if you really sit back and digest this movie-you will see as a comedy it has potential.

Goodfellas

A despicable movie

Over rated piece of %#@!. Why a movie that glorifies the scum of this planet is so popular is beyond me. People should know better than think that foul language and gratuitous violence makes a movie. One word describes this poor excuse of a movie, "pitiful".

Lawrence Of Arabia

Quote:
The worst highly-rated movie in IMDB

BORING, self-important, you don't care about the characters

Even granting that the cinematography is okay, it's like watching an Internet Camera focused on the desert 24 hours a day.

The Manchurian Candidate (1962)

Doesn't get my vote

After reading so much about this film, how it was as relevant today as when it was made, how it was an intelligent exciting politcal thriller and one of the best films of the 60's. Then I watched it and after a few minutes I thought I must have the wrong film. What I was watching was a movie with an silly and unbelievable story, some truly terrible dialogue badly acted and told in a slow moving rather tedious and predictable way. I'll admit Angela Lansbury was good but nearly everyone else wasn't. I can't believe this was considered good even forty years ago! Far from the classic I thought it was supposed to be, it's one of the worst films I've seen for a long time. (1/10)

Metropolis

Really Boring - Awful
This film has to be one of THE most boring films I have watched in a while... It is in black and white for a start, which I personally find really annoying, and the music that has been put on it really does NOT suit it, without the cheesy music, it might have been alright... I guess that I also don't like the film because I have had to watch the beginning of it sooo many times (coursework on the opening sequence). The opening of the film is enough to put anyone off the film, as it is so tedious and it just drags on for what feels like forever... A lot of the shots at the start o the film all look the same, and it is very, very repetitive.

Ninotchka

You've gotta be kidding me

First of all, I should say that I'm not a closet fan of Soviet Russia.

However, seeing Soviet Russia spoofed so clumsily in this film is just plain embarrassing. The whole notion of making a featherweight comedy set in one of the most oppressive societies of all time is somewhat questionable, and it becomes completely absurd when the "oppression" we see centers mainly around the rationing of eggs and Western lingerie. In other words, this movie feels so artificial, and so tame, and so Hollywood, that its attempts to depict the hardships of life under Communism are laughable.

Too bad the intended jokes aren't as funny. Most of the humor here is of a twee and dated nature - like Garbo's "amusing" pudgy friend in Russia, and our hero punching an obnoxious clerk. Good grief.

An 8.0 on IMDb? Surpassing the French Connection, and nipping at the heels of Floating Weeds? I don't believe it. Some classics really are great, but some are pure cheese. I know Garbo's hot, but really...

On The Waterfront

Complete garbage

Depressingly awful. Looks like the director cast his mechanic, postman and a truck stop waitress in the lead roles, resulting in the type of performances typical of porn movies. I've seen more atmosphere in my father's 8mm home movies. Even hardcore drama fans will be pressed to find anything enjoyable about this bottom-feeder. It's actually packaged as a "Collector's Edition" and includes a "Making of..." documentary tagged on at the end, as if to suggest this is a "classic" to be cherished for the ages. Hopefully the director was able to get his job back at the bottle-capping factory after the shoot. Nobody should see this movie.

Pulp Fiction

Plotless

To me the movie had no plot and was merely an excuse to depict one form of violence after another; with no intent to tell a story, make a point, or to get the audience intellectually or emotionally involved with the movie.

Schindler's List

Schmaltzy

No knock on the story just the story telling. You hear John Williams cue up and might as well prep that hanky. I really wish Spielberg would maintain his distance from "deep" subject matter. Popular yes, but no auteur is he.
