How? Why ought we to be embarrassed at God endorsing slavery? What gives you the right to judge bits of the Bible as "nasty"?

Wow! The torrent of guidance in appreciating God's love has brought out a predictable result in our Tom. Simple honesty about God finally breaks through the toughest liberal detachment to reveal the festering sea of resentment roiling beneath the surface.
Let it all out, Tom. Run the well dry so we can begin to rebuild you in the knowledge that God is what He is regardless of how you try to focus on that you arrogantly consider to be the nice bits.
You'll then believe in Him accurately and as much as we do.

Let me see if I get this right. You are against hate speech?
Jesus loves you seriously bigtime. He’d hug you until your eyeballs exploded out of your skull if he ever met you. He’d windsurf across oceans of dead Nazis which he personally slaughtered just to tell you that your new haircut is the bee’s knees. Jesus is like the monster truck of love and you are an old Geo Metro which he will roar his massive engine over and crush your pathetic fiberglass frame into a crumpled heap. Praise Jesus, especially when it’s sunny outside because Jesus would totally be cool with you praising while you get a nice tan.

Here's why I know that. The nation prospered when slavery was practiced. Now that it it not, we are in a recession.
In science, this is called cause-and-effect analysis. The economy is a dependant variable, slavery and an independant variable. (I apologize for going technical on you.)
Maybe a little study before you post here??

Don't be absurd. None of us are nigra stock. We aren't sons of Hamm.
Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

tom--It is obvious you done not have a sense of what is called, The Greater Good.
The Greater Good comes into play in the slavery issue, not by looking a the small picture of who was better off and who was worse off, but by looking at the big picture.
The big picture, The Greater Good, was served by developing the cotton industry and developing the South. This went on for decades. Now, some cities in the South, like Atlanta, are in a world of hurt. Our country would be well served by taking a hard look at the good slavery did for us.

If slavery were to be brought back today, I think it would be called "Indentured Opportunity".
It would be a practical way to resolve debts owed and reduce production costs, helping everyone. I must say it is hard to argue with someone who does not see the obvious.
You insist on clinging to an old myth that slavery is bad.

You mean the joos? They aren't exactly white, are they?

Now I'm confused.
Is Tom just showing us typical "liberal tolerance", which means "cuss and make death threats at anyone who doesn't agree with me", or is he actually possessed?
Bible boring? Nonsense!

would like to put you in chains and manacles and sell you to
the highest bidder but rather than pay money for such as you, they would
throw rotten fruit and eggs.
Yes bring back slavery because I would pay to watch a worm like you.
If you so dim you can see no wrong in slavery read this.
IntroductionEthics and slavery[image: Antique, rusted iron ball and chain

Slavery can broadly be described as the ownership, buying and selling of
human beings for the purpose of forced and unpaid labour.
Slavery is one of the things that everyone agrees is unethical. In fact
there is such general agreement that most people would probably say that
'slavery is wrong just because it's wrong'.
Even those who practice slavery don't usually try to defend it - they make
excuses or attempt to avoid being caught; which suggests that they know
that they are doing wrong.
Why is slavery wrong?
Although slavery does seem 'obviously wrong' it's worth listing some of the
reasons why it's wrong.
- Slavery increases total human unhappiness
- The slave-owner treats the slaves as the means to achieve the
slave-owner's ends, not as an end in themselves
- Slavery exploits and degrades human beings
- Slavery violates human rights: The Universal Declaration of Human
Rights explicitly forbids slavery and many of the practices associated with
slavery
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are
endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a
spirit of brotherhood.
Article 1, Universal Declaration of Human Rights
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
Article 3, Universal Declaration of Human Rights
No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade
shall be prohibited in all their forms

I'm sure you would, but this is a Christian discussion board, not a gay bondage hookup site. As for the rest, even a Christ-hating sinner like you can understand that insofar as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights contradicts the Bible, one of them has to be wrong, and that Christians must choose the Bible over anything that contradicts it.

I always had a bad feeling about that declaration of human rights thing but I'd never really bothered to read it. Thanks for pointing out how truly evil and anti-Christian it is, Tom.
I owe you one!

Tom--The Human Rights Manifesto is interesting to look over, but it has nothing to do with the big picture of what we are discussing here. We are discussing the benefits to society of slavery.
There always has been some criticism of slavery. I would classify those, like yourself, who are all enamored with the "Manifesto" as part of a special interest group. You advocate policies that are drafted for the benefit of small groups in our society, but do not have benefit to broader society in mind.
We here at LBC have nothing but the greater good in mind with all that we advocate.
Isaiah 24:1-3 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty (2)...as the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. (3) The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken his word.

Let's see now. When figuring out what a Christian would want, should I trust what God says or what Tom says? What Tom says or what God says? Gosh oh golly, that's a toughie.
