Bless Judas! -
08-06-2010, 02:54 AM
I must disagree with my Bretheren about Joos and Judas. I will of course accept any rebuke by my betters, triple tithe, and grovel in abject submission if y’all say so.
This is not exactly an original thought, but I’ve not seen it addressed here. (Maybe there’s a good reason for that....) Why not a regular B-day party for Judas? If he hadn’t ratted out our J-Man to the Romans, what would have happened?
(Parenthetical note: Why the need for the snitch-out in the first place? I mean, our Lord was not exactly undercover with a Groucho mask or something. He rode into Jerusalem on an ass parade-float fashion, palm fronds and the whole nine yards, smashing things in the temple courtyard, making the most obvious spectacle of Himself. There must have been Wanted posters on every telephone pole, and every Centurion knew who He was. So why the need for the air-kiss? But I digress....)
If Judas hadn’t fingered him, presumably Jebus would have gone his merry way, lived to a ripe old age, opened a cross-making shop or something, married the Jezebel Mary, had a brood of brats, cashed in his 401K and been known only as just another neighborhood crank who thought he was God. There’s a hint this is so in Luke 4:24, “And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.” His own neighbors thought he was nuts already.
The Gospel of Judas said exactly this but was tossed out at the Council of Nicea by the mackerel-snapping catlicks and Constantine.
Let us bless Judas, have some cake and ice cream or something and THANK him for his service. Where would we be without him?
Same deal for the Joos. If they hadn’t killed Him (well, briefly...) we’d all be Joos too. Why aren’t we THANKING them?
Thank you for your consideration, my Brothers. This kind of thing keeps me up nights.
Leviticus 13:44 He is a leprous man, he is UNCLEAN: the priest shall pronounce him utterly UNCLEAN; his plague is in his head.
2 Kings 6:25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

No, the Lord was not undercover. However, He was a a young Jewish man in a city of Jews. Without the various means of visual arts we have available to us in this day and age, faces are actually kind forgettable and/or interchangeable.
Even during times a woodcuts and broadsheets, the actual images normally bore no resemblance whatsoever to the person being sought.
Of course, Judas is not to be thanked for exercising his free will and betraying our Lord, anymore than Eve is to be thanked for using her free will to curse all of humanity.
God, in His Wisdom, gives people enough rope to hang themselves-- they still have to go through the trouble of tying the noose. God can't do everything for us. He does, however, take any burden of punishing sinners eternally off of our shoulders. We are only required to follow through on earthly punishments.

Thank you brother. But it's a selective free will, no? Witness why the Jews were denied exit visas from Egypt:
Exodus 11:10
And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.
God directly caused Pharaoh to make the Jews stay. Where was Pharaoh's free will in this critical matter? Hey, He's GOD, He can and will do whatever suits Him, but still....

An apology in Latin is not necessary. A simple, handwritten note in Aramaic, accompanied by flowers will suffice.

Are you trying to imply that our Lord Jesus Christ was a sinner?!?! You claim He would marry a whore and is nothing more than a crazy man. And you call yourself a Christian?

The Gospel of Judas is nothing more than heresy. Is it in the King James Bible? No? Then it is not the Word of God®.
I don't know what you're trying to do by inserting some pagan festival that worships Judas, but we'll have none of it here. I suggest you go back to your prayer closet and beg Jesus for forgiveness for believing such foolish notions.

I accept your apology. Now, you must focus on the more important matter of where you stand vis a vis the Lord.
I can only freeze you with womanly disdain, the Lord can fry you forever.

There is no doubt that we have free will – least way, we hope we do. Without free will we would not be able to show how godly we can be, however, and there is always a ‘however’ there are 6 categories of people on this earth and one does NOT have free will: God is clear on this one.
1. Good People who do good things – The Disciples, True Christians, Platinum Tithers
2. Good People who do bad things – All those Christians locked up in jail for rape, murder, robbery, etc.
3. Bad people who do good things – Moslems who stone adulterers, The pope when he condemns homers
4. Bad people who do bad things – Anyone not in category 1
5. People who get a free ride to Heaven – 14,400 Jews (Revelation 7:4-8) and Ro:8:30
6. People who get a free ride to hell - Psalm 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
The question is, as Jesus’ death was foretold and as He Himself knew this was to be the manner of His temporary departure – in which category was Judas?
There appears to be 3 possibilities: 2, 3 or 6.
I think we can discount 3 as Judas was a Disciple chosen by Jesus, so he was likely to have appeared as a Good Christian to everyone except Jesus, Who could see into his soul.
Does this make Judas a category 2? No. Jesus went around saying through faith in Him you are saved. How could Judas have ever turned from that offer? He was not lunatick, he was not possessed of devils, it would have shown.
So, Judas was one of those condemned to hell from birth. Makes good sense for a Godly Plan. Judas was a piece of dross to do the job and no hope of being converted.
“Is this not hard on Judas?” I hear you ask.
“No, not at all – crack open that KJV1611 and look at
Matthew 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Matthew 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
God never asks you to try too hard to convert people! He knows some (atheists and catlix) are just there as fuel for the pits of darkness and brimstone. He makes them like that because He is Wise and Merciful.

Well said, Brother! Why, just think how crowded Heaven would be!
Besides, if you have to try too hard to convert them, how likely is it that they'd be truly happy serving and praising and worshiping Him in Heaven for all eternity? They'd no doubt get bored of it, start looking for strippers and beer volcanoes, groping for their no-longer-existent genitals, and end up cast into Hell anyway. I doubt that God wants to deal with repeatedly cleaning house after He creates the new Heaven and new Earth, and only wants the purest servants in His golden city.
Bible boring? Nonsense!

You discount possibility #1. The Gospel of Judas says that the whole thing was an inside job; that Jesus ordered Judas to 'betray' him in order to set things in motion and fulfill prophesy. Of course this gospel is not canon, but who can trust the Catlickers and a Roman emperor, Constantine, who was in all likelihood playing both sides against the middle in claiming to be a Christian. The gospel of Judas has been dated to as early as about 130 CE, which would make it contemporaneous with other canon.
This gospel is in line with the fact that Jesus' death was necessary for our redemption; the presumed alternative being the unleashing of God's wrath - forestalled only by Jesus' (temporary) sacrifice. In this light, was not Judas a good man doing a good thing?
Leviticus 13:44 He is a leprous man, he is UNCLEAN: the priest shall pronounce him utterly UNCLEAN; his plague is in his head.
2 Kings 6:25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.

The thing that impressed me least about The Gospel of Judas is Jesus keeps laughing... Jesus does not laugh.
The other thing is that Gospel of Judas appears to make Him appear like some New-Age hippy rabbiting on about stars and generations in an unintelligible manner, unlike his KJV1611 character who tell brilliant stories about cursing fig trees and the like.
The idea that Judas might have been a good man doing a good thing must be erroneous. Judas is described as having betrayed Christ; betrayal is never good.
M't:26:24: The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
Why, if Jesus and Judas came to an agreement, then this would be the only contradiction in the Bible!

You have won the day, sir. I had not considered that, had my proposition any merit, it would constitute the first and only contradiction in the Bible. The odds of that happening are....well, there are no odds. It's flat impossible. Thank you, Brother, for removing the stinking, fetid cheesecloth from my eyes.

What about God condemning killing?
Exodus 20:13 Thou Shalt not Kill.
Consequently Judas killed himself.
Matthew 27: 3-5
3Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Judas choose to violate God's commandments, therefore he is damned to hell.
Genesis 4:12: When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
Numbers 35:19: The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

We have already established that by the time Judas killed himself, the issue of his culpability was res judicata and no doubt made a priori.

My thoughts on this topic are that even if Judas hadn't ratted our good friend out to the Romans/Jewish priests they would still have found a way to convict him. Notice the many times that the priests attempted to trap him with questioning?
I think in it's own way this is a bit of God's nudge towards showing us predestination...but as that type of discussion can go in a loop depending on your view i will not go into it.

Interesting discussion, Landover Lover. Do you accept the so-called Gnostic gospels as a part of the canon, or only as interesting stories told by other types of ancient, and wayward, Christians? How would you apply the knowledge contained in them to your life? The Gospel of Judas was perhaps the most reviled by Irenaeus. Why would modern Christians go against his decision to keep it out of the canon? And the Gospel of Thomas sounds like some kind of Taoist ramble. Can those kind of ideas find a place in modern Christian practice? What do they even mean?
Sorry about all the questions on my second post. I hope you don't find that too forward.
