Let's talk about political realignments.
A realigning election (often called a critical election or political realignment)...refers to American national elections in which there are sharp changes in issues, party leaders, the regional and demographic bases of power of the two parties, and structure or rules of the political system (such as voter eligibility or financing), resulting in a new political power structure that lasts for decades.
...
The central holding of realignment theory, first developed in the political scientist V. O. Key, Jr.'s 1955 article, "A Theory of Critical Elections," is that American elections, parties and policymaking routinely shift in swift, dramatic sweeps.
...scholars have generally concluded that systematic patterns are identifiable in American national elections such that cycles occur on a regular schedule: once every 36-years or so. This period of roughly 30 years fits with the notion that these cycles are closely linked to generational change.
...
A central component of realignment is the change in behavior of voting groups.
I think the reason the left is freaking out so hard is because they've spent their entire political lives promising to start The Revolution. Then when The Revolution actually happens, they not only didn't lead the vanguard, they didn't even jump on the bandwagon, no, they actually fought as the counter-revolutionaries. No wonder the cognitive dissonance is driving them nuts.
But enough about the painful death of the old ideas and coalitions, we need to talk about the new movements.
Talking about the alt-right just leads to confusion and pornographic frog cartoons, so let's leave that for later.
The "
Dirtbag Left" seems to be Centrist to Berniebros, only with more swearing. Here's their take on the election results: (Warning: exactly as vulgar as you'd expect someone called "the dirtbag left" to sound)
The
full rant is here.
Not all the young think rudeness is good in of itself, here's a "
cultural libertarian", talking before the election:
Here he is after:
In another video he suggests that Brexit/Trumpies, currently called "Right-wing Populist" be called "
National Collectivist". Can anyone come up with new political faction name that isn't multiple words long?
