Default Day 28. Exodus 34-36 - 10-02-2007, 04:15 PM

Exodus 34-36

Today we get:
  • The second set of ten commandments (or third)
  • Moses' radiant face (horned?)
  • The people make offerings to the LORD
  • The work of Bezaleel and Aholiab

Exodus 34

1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

Because, remember, yesterday Moses came down with the original ten commandments, but the people were worshiping the golden calf that Aaron made, so he broke them, burned the calf, made the people drink the ashes, and then had 3000 people killed.

4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.

This time, nobody went with him, not Joshua who last time he left halfway up the mount.

5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.

Probably JEHOVAH.

6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

God seems kind of boastful here.

Pay attention to what He says in verse 7. Forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, BUT THAT DOESN'T mean clearing the guilty. God CLEARLY states that He forgives, HOWEVER, he still requires punishment for sin. There is a price to pay.

Moses then worships God, and asks for forgiveness for the people.

10 And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.

11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

If only in the 1940's God drove out the Mudslimes, we wouldn't be hearing about Hamas, or the PLO.

13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Is there a reason why the "dome of the rock" and the Al-Aqsa Mosque is still standing?

Now the first set of engraved ten commandments, God made. This set, Moses had to inscribe.

27 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

Some people call this set the "Ritual Commandments" as opposed to the Exodus 20 version which is the "Ethical Commandments".

1. Worship no other god, destroy other's temples and things. Verses 10-16

2. No Idols. Verse 17

3. The feast of unleavened bread. Verse 18

4. The firstborn must be sacrificed to God. Verses 19-20

5. Rest on Sabbath. Verse 21

6. Observe the feast of weeks and firstfruits. Oh, and all men must appear before God 3 times a year. Verses 22-23

7. No LEAVEN as sacrifice. Verse 25.

8. No fat from offerings remaining in the morning. Verse 25

9. First fruits are for the LORD. Verse 26

10. Don't cook a kid in it's mother's milk. Verse 26

So these are the 10 commandments that are on the tablets. Whenever you see a display of the ten commandments on stone, you now can inform people that the REAL ten commandments in Exodus 34, are not the ones that are on the stones.

After Moses got done inscribing the stones he came down from the mount, and his face shone, possibly horns grew.

29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.

Moses then put a vail on his face. Whenever he would talk to people he'd wear the vail. Whenever he would talk to God he would take it off.

Exodus 35

Moses then reiterates the laws, putting emphasis on the Sabbath rule.

Then Moses calls for an offering, enough that all the things can be made.

5 Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass,

And everything else that they need to make the tentbernacle.

The people left and brought back the things that were needed.

21 And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD's offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.

Praise God, if you ask nicely, even a Jew will part with their gold and things.

22 And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the LORD.

Every man that offered offered an offering, PRAISE GOD!!!

Exodus 36

1 Then wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that the LORD had commanded.

Good for them.

3 And they received of Moses all the offering, which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary, to make it withal. And they brought yet unto him free offerings every morning.

Every morning, the Jews would bring more and more offerings to the LORD, PRAISE JESUS!!!

5 And they spake unto Moses, saying, The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work, which the LORD commanded to make.

They gave more than needed, AMEN!

Then Bezaleel and Aholiab built the tentbernacle.

So what have we learned today?

1. The ten commandments written by the finger of God, this time were written by Moses.

2. If you ask REALLY REALLY REALLY nicely, Jews will give up more than enough gold and other precious items to build God's tent.

3. Moses face was radiant, or possibly had horns.

PRAISE JESUS!!!

It's hard to believe, but this verse below is the whole reason why Jews think they aren't allowed to mix meat and dairy today.

Ex 34:26 The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

This passage is referring to a specific Canaanite practice of taking a nursing goat kid, boiling it in its own mother's milk, and sprinkling it around their fields and orchards. Their wacky superstitious belief was that this would somehow make their crops grow better. This verse is a specific prohibition against that practice -- not a prohibition against cheeseburgers.

Upon request I will cite scripture for all these facts in God's Holy Word.
