Default Why didn't Jesus flog the adulterous woman? - 08-04-2010, 02:16 PM

You guys seem to be big on flogging girls, or at least hitting them. Why didn't Jesus hit the girl in these verses? Isn't He the example beyond reproach or so I've been taught to believe?

John 7:53-8:11 in the King James Version:
7:53 And every man went unto his own house. 8:1 Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they who heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Shouldn't Jesus have flogged her or at least taken the belt to her? Was it perhaps a lapse in 'judgment' on His part? What say you good people on here?

God bless.

sigh, you really are tiresome
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
With no accusers she was innocent of harlotry.

Jesus wasn't married to her or her father. The Bible explicitly states in Ephesians 5:22-24 that it is one's wife not just a random woman. I cannot go around flogging any woman who I have not had knowledge of or that I am not her father.

Genesis 4:12: When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

Numbers 35:19: The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

Why have you this fixation on beating and raping women? You still have not made any apologies yet for your behavior.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
Proverbs 19:25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Ezekiel 16:14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Proverbs 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Genesis 24:16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
Song of Solomon 1:15 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes.

I think the same reason he didn't flog her but gave her a mild admonition, is why you shouldn't beat your wives or children, but admonish them with love, to be truly Christian, and trust that your godly example has far more power than your fists or whips or belts..

My take anyway... How do you view the balance between personal example and punishment? I would say, punishment is only necessary when personal example fails and thus the children start misbehaving, or they are exposed to ungodly people who put sinful desires in their head. Even so, explaining it to them I find to be better than punishing them, so they can let go of sin through understanding and not through fear.

I'd like to discuss this with you, I'm sure you rely far more on example than punishment than is my impression, or perhaps merely suspicision.

What do you view as optimal Christian parenting? Optimal Baptist parenting?

Regards,

sas

I want to see one post, just one post by a True Christian that goes on about flogging girls. I want to see you quote it you sick perverted little twat. I am tired of you filling up these boards with your sick twisted catholic fantasies. Do you want to become a priest is that it? Did they turn you away because you buggered the bishops dog?

Jesus told her to go and "sin no more". What do you think would of happened if Jesus had ran into her the week after and she was being a harlot?

The people living in the time of the New Testament had, as believers, the Old Testament to instruct them.

Don't try that "divide and conquer" tactic on us. We accept the entire Bible, all 66 books of it, to be equally valid and useful for instruction as to how one follows God.

I thought they had Jesus to instruct them? And the True Disciples?

How can you accept the entire book when Jesus tells you to ignore certain parts of the Old Testament, for example,

You've been told, hate thine enemies, but I say, love those that persecute thee and pray for thy enemies.

Accepting the New Testament means rejecting parts of the Old. Unless you don't consider Jesus, but yourself, the final authority in biblical and godly matters. In which case, the term True Christian™ looks like a shallow, to me.

How do you view or explain this?

Regards.

"Hate thine enemies" is not from the Old Testament, retard.

Jesus does not say to ignore anything in the Old Testament. Rather, He says quite the opposite:

Matthew 5:18 (King James Version) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Ok, I thought it did, since Jesus said 'You have heard' and in the following paragraphs says the same thing about things I positively know are in the Old Testament, such as, 'You have heard to not commit adultery, but I tell you, even to look with lust you know the rest'. So I figured when Jesus said, 'You have heard', it meant that it was in the Old Testament, and now this was the New. Why would they call it the New otherwise?

God bless.

Don't know what that means, I don't speak that particular language.

However, I thought the New Testament was supposed to replace the Old, Jesus speaks of Him bringing a New Covenant, ie a New System or 'deal' between man and God, with a particularly strong emphasis on forgiveness and personal repentance and holiness, instead of punishment for sin in the form of say stonings etc, so I figured the New Law replaced the Old or at least Perfected it so as to make the Old Covenant obsolete and certain directions in it, outright wrong.

Have I misunderstood this? I appreciate any input from those that know better.

Thanks.

What do you suppose the following means?

Matt. 5:17-20: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. If God wanted us to ignore the Old Testament, why does the New Testament contain 937 quotes, references and allusions to the Old Testament?
As to support Brother Basher,
More to the point half of what Christ says, references or paraphrases Old Testament. Keep in mind the Pharisees were desperate to charge Christ with breaking The Law and they never could do it. They finally side stepped the issue and charged him with inciting rebellion.

Thanks to you and the other brothers who stepped up to bolster my point with your superior Bible knowledge.

And regarding the Pharisees, the rebellion charge they framed Jesus with was against Rome; that's why they had Rome do their dirty work for them. It's still their fault, of course, but crucifixtion is not the means of capital punishment in ANY Jewish scripture.

Really, why do these unbelievers come here and play these games with us? The Bible always has all the answers; so how can they win?

Cheerfully Yours,

Handmaiden
