I have been so upset at our friend and supporter, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. He is withdrawing Iowa's subsidy of dog race tracks. It means one track, up in Catholic Democratic Dubuque, will remain open while the track in Republican Council Bluffs will close.

What of Catholic Governor does not understand is the Christian aspect of dog racing. Our Bible tells us man has dominion over all animals. No sport better illustrates this than putting a fake rabbit in front of a pack of stupid dogs and watching them chase it.

We need more dog tracks, not fewer. I'll call Governor Terry again today.

I love dog racing. Good, clean sport, gets you outside, excitement and camaraderie. Skill in choosing the winner, I could go on and on and on.
As a business man, I also consider the social impact. Darkies to clean the kennels of deification all the way to employment and a form of subsistence for the track owners families (yes, more than one Christian family is alive thanks to dog racing!)
The benefits do not stop at the end of the races. Once the animals have come off pace and are over two years old, they are no longer fast enough to be of use at the track, they are not simply tossed aside. Many are shipped across the country to become pets at many a Vietnamese grocer or restaurant where the pups are adored by all that come in contact with them.

Romans 13:1-6
13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

What does the Bible say about dog fights? Do you think they could be held to compensate for the decline in dog races?

Proverbs 26:17 tells us not to get involved in the fights of others, including dog fights.

I really think Christians need to support dog racing. It is the sport that most carries out God's desire that humans have dominion over all the beasts.

Why does it have to be a fake rabbit? It was more fun in the good old days when they used real stupid rabbits, only to to be ripped to pieces by equally stupid dogs

My feeling is all sports should have a religious dimension. Football has a message that males are the dominant of the sexes. Hunting and dog racing has men dominating animals.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see religious wisdom being passed along in sports like sissy table tennis and bowling.
