To whom is John writing? He isn't writing an open letter to everyone. He is writing to church members.

Isn't that amazing?!

Weren't you just quoting from 1 John?
You would know that True Christians are incapable of sin.
1 John 3:8-10 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, but God doesn't listen to the prayers of sinners. If you are a sinner, don't waste yours or God's time.
John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
