Default Day 29. Exodus 37-40 - 10-03-2007, 04:28 PM

Exodus 37-40

Today ends Exodus, not THE Exodus, just the book of Exodus.

Very little actually happens today:
  • Bezaleel and Aholiab do the work
  • Moses sets up the tabernacle
  • God goes into it

Exodus 37

God's stuff

1 And Bezaleel made the ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half was the length of it, and a cubit and a half the breadth of it, and a cubit and a half the height of it:

6 And he made the mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half was the length thereof, and one cubit and a half the breadth thereof.

10 And he made the table of shittim wood: two cubits was the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof:

16 And he made the vessels which were upon the table, his dishes, and his spoons, and his bowls, and his covers to cover withal, of pure gold.

17 And he made the candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work made he the candlestick; his shaft, and his branch, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, were of the same:

23 And he made his seven lamps, and his snuffers, and his snuffdishes, of pure gold.

25 And he made the incense altar of shittim wood: the length of it was a cubit, and the breadth of it a cubit; it was foursquare; and two cubits was the height of it; the horns thereof were of the same.

29 And he made the holy anointing oil, and the pure incense of sweet spices, according to the work of the apothecary.

Everything made in Exodus 37 is made in gold. WHY?

Things for God are gold. Everything made in Exodus 37 is for, or represents God. The ark, mercy seat, table, dishes, lamps, candlestick; these are all the LORD's items. Later, when Solomon builds the temple, everything for the LORD again is made of gold.

Everything in the tentbernace was made of specific metals so you would know who it's for. Gold is for God. If it's gold, you better not touch it. Brass items are for the priests. The altar, and it's tools are made of brass, as are the wash stands.

Exodus 38

Priests' stuff

1 And he made the altar of burnt offering of shittim wood: five cubits was the length thereof, and five cubits the breadth thereof; it was foursquare; and three cubits the height thereof.

3 And he made all the vessels of the altar, the pots, and the shovels, and the basons, and the fleshhooks, and the firepans: all the vessels thereof made he of brass.

4 And he made for the altar a brasen grate of network under the compass thereof beneath unto the midst of it.

8 And he made the laver of brass, and the foot of it of brass, of the lookingglasses of the women assembling, which assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Again, the color/metal coding so people would know who it's for.

Exodus 39

The garments.

1 And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses.

2 And he made the ephod of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

8 And he made the breastplate of cunning work, like the work of the ephod; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

22 And he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue.

27 And they made coats of fine linen of woven work for Aaron, and for his sons,

28 And a mitre of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine linen, and linen breeches of fine twined linen,

29 And a girdle of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, of needlework; as the LORD commanded Moses.

30 And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

32 Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished: and the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they.

After being told about the items several times, everything is all done. PRAISE GOD!

The tabernacle is completed.

43 And Moses did look upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it: and Moses blessed them.

Exodus 40

2 On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

Remember, they are still roaming around the wilderness. Only once a month are they to set up the tabernacle. The rest of the time, it's carried with them. Like a traveling circus under the big top. Like Moses and Jehovah's traveling circus.

17 And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.

YAY!!!

After Moses and the boys set up the tentbernacle, and make the sacrifices, and wash themselves. God shows up.

34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

Even though he's seen him several times.

When the cloud left, they dismantled the tentbernacle, and went on their way.

38 For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.

Thus ends Exodus.

So what have we learned today?

1. Gold is for God; brass is for the priests.
2. The tabernacle is only set up on the first of the month, and is taken down after the cloud of the LORD departs.

What all have we learned through the book of Exodus?

1. Both sets of ten commandments, ethical and ritual.
2. The items in the tabernacle.
3. Moses may or may not have grown horns.
4. God plagued Egypt because He wanted to show His might.
5. The people of Israel abandon God within days of Him not being there.
6. The people ate Manna and quail for 40 years.
7. God hates yeast.

PRAISE JESUS!!!
