No Personalized Marriage Vows In Freehold. -
11-28-2014, 04:39 AM
Pastor Zeke and I were having coffee the other day when I asked him if he has any starry-eyed couples wanting the write their own vows for their wedding. He rolled his eyes.
I'd like to remind couples that writing your own marriage vows is not allowed at LBC or in the City of Freehold. Why such a rule, I'm sure you are asking?
It's because the vows for marriage were written by Pastor Zeke to represent the requirements of marriage provided us by God. How can some young couple know what those requirements are?
God wants lots of children, so a commitment on that has to be in the vows. Then, there is sharing with the Church the bountiful money the husband is expected to bring home. There is regular church attendance--I'm rambling on here.
I hope this makes the point it is best to not even bring up this topic when planning your wedding.

People who write their vows think it's all about love.
Marriage for the man is about a woman who can keep a good house, feed him well, and bear and raise his sons. Marriage for a woman is about finding a man who will actually put up with her.

I still remember My and the wife's wedding ceremony...a humble Christian affair with no fuss or muss. My vow to her: "I will own you, woman". Her promise to me: "Yes, sir".

Easy: By reading the Bible from cover to cover. It used to be that Pastor Zeke would refuse to marry any couple unless he was certain both parties had read the entire KJV from cover to cover at least once.
And he gave written comprehension tests to whole rooms full of prospective brides and grooms to make sure they understood what they had read!
If Zeke has relaxed this requirement, it's no wonder these air-heads are coming to him with these crazy notions.
ALSO: Writing your own vows is a very popular thing with feminists and gays. They love to take that part about the bride obeying her husband and twist it around into some crap about the two of them mutually respecting each other and blah, blah, blah.
I won't promise to respect my bride; respect is something that can only be earned over time. My message to any young lady who wants to marry me is "Show me whatchya got."
Let's see if, six months from now, you still wash dishes and scrub the walls of my man cave with the same vim and vigor that you did during our courtship process.
Then I'll decide how much respect you deserve.

I won't let my wife into my man cave. I keep it padlocked at all times. It's none of her business what I do in there.
There's a double sided hatch near the door where she places food and drinks when I tell her to. That's as close as she gets to it.
