Young Alkalai clearly has a void in his life. He is incomplete. He is only half a man. He has no moral compass, and he is utterly lost. Yet when shown the one thing that can bring about healing in his meaningless existence, he spit's right in the face of gentle Jesus, meek and mild. All Jesus wants is for Alkalai to accept His kind offer of Redemption, but Alkalai is too cowardly to accept His Grace. It's sad.
It's not as if we haven't been expecting as much, though. The Holy Bible (KJV 1611) tells us to expect such scoffers in these End Times.
II Peter 3:2-7
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
I suppose if nothing else, Alkalai can serve as a reminder to us of how fortunate we are to have not been preordained to go through life with our heads implanted firmly within our anuses, that we may have the good sense to recognize our fallen-ness and take Jesus up on His offer.
