I have a friend who thinks she may be a dissipated heathen. At present, she confided, she is not
opposed to Jesus or His Church and has even purchased items during fundraising efforts by the local Quakers. She supports their social concern in principle but does not wish to join any particular congregation.
LUKE 9:50b for he that is not against us is for us. KJV
MARK 9:40 For he that is not against us is on our part. KJV
I explained that many of the so-called "churches" do not in fact follow the teaching of Jesus and she agreed. That is why she has not joined any one congregation. Since that makes her lukewarm, I explained, she is unacceptable to Jesus.
Imagine my horror when she responded that Jesus can go and boil his head, if someone is hungry she will feed them, if naked she will clothe them and if grieving or ill she will comfort them. The clergy are a bunch of parasitic shysters claiming a "salary" for doing what any normal person does for free, she advised me, and the sooner the churches all close the better. That is why she has not joined one and in the meantime she will continue to support their charitable efforts and to make every endeavour to comfort, feed or clothe the needy as she encounters them from day to day just like any other normal person, I was informed, and if I got a problem with that then I can join Jesus in the the pot and have my head boiled too. Or words to that effect.
How should I advise my friend?
