That's why they're better for large groups. "Will this group be able to achieve such&such a task?" for example. It's too difficult to ge a test that eliminates variables such as language or previous experience, say if you grew up on a cattle station you'd probably know all about cattle breeding and helicopter maintenance but nothing about supermarkets
whereas if you grew up in France you'd think English was not even a language
(just however people managed to communicate in grunts when they all spoke different languages such as Latin, Pict, Celt, Gael, Viking, Norman, Scot, Dane, Germanic Norse, and Orange to name but eleven) and know everything about poodle clipping.
So to level those two groups you'd need to have nothing written in English or French, and nothing relating to cattle breeding, helicopters or poodles. Which would eliminate quite a lot. There are progressive matrices but you might just as well throw a few colourblindness tests at them or monitor their responses to music, particularly music associated with
the massbut then you'd just have a cohort of brainwashed hypnozombies who'd do whatever you told them so their IQ would be of no interest to anyone.
